Working with a high level of autonomy, the Assistant Director will be required to make evidence-based decisions on issues that may significantly impact the APVMA, and to evaluate risks in a complex regulatory environment. They will manage relationships with international regulators and internal and external stakeholders, including commonwealth, state or territory entities and non-government organisations.

To be considered for these roles you will need the following essential criteria: * Demonstrated staff leadership capabilities and the ability to manage complex workloads, setting priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, solve problems, pay attention to detail, make evidence-based decisions, and prepare briefing materials on operational activities.
- Highly developed communication skills to manage complex interactions with internal and external stakeholders.
- Awareness of the regulatory framework in which the APVMA operates, including the APVMA’s objectives and operational activities, and the ability to establish Section work tasks that align with these objectives.
- Demonstrated experience in building and sustaining collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, recognising shared issues and opportunities and how to use this knowledge to reach resolutions within timeframe.
- Analytical skills, expertise and experience in the interpretation and evaluation of information, preferably in the context of a regulatory environment.
- A multidisciplinary background with relevant experience and tertiary qualifications in law, legislative policy, business, project management, science, or agriculture.
