The Opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to be part of an organisation dedicated to leading Australia's clean energy transition, building the energy super-highways and enabling nation-building renewable energy projects that will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.
This position reports to the Control Centre Manager and is responsible for supporting the operation of Transgrid's High Voltage network. The responsibilities include planning network outages to meet network security & reliability standards, facilitating safe access for work on High Voltage apparatus in accordance with Transgrid's Power System Safety Rules and operating the high-voltage network to meet stakeholder requirements in the most effective manner.
This is achieved through application of operating processes, tools and operational documentation. The qualities, that you will be required to demonstrate, include:
- Highly effective verbal communication skills to ensure operational information is accurately transmitted and received in stressful situations during real-time operations
- A good understanding of the outage requirements and potential outage impacts on both internal and external customers
- High proficiency in adopting a thorough systematic approach using computer-based tools, operational processes, understanding of safety systems and knowledge of high voltage equipment to plan and deliver network outages
This is a shift work position and you will be expected to work on an appropriate shift roster after completing a staged competency development program. During completion of the competency program there may be periods of office rotation where you will be expected to work office hours in accordance with the available options under the current Transgrid Enterprise Agreement.
The rapid growth in renewable generation has increased the complexity of operating the high voltage network and delivering the necessary outage program. This requires significant effort and responsibility on you to manage customer expectations while achieving optimal outcomes for the end consumers. It is essential to fully understand the impact on customer operations to enable effective decision making.
Skills & Experience
- Advanced Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Broad knowledge and experience of the function and operating characteristics of high-voltage transmission equipment and the associated control, protection and communication systems and auxiliary supply systems
- Knowledge of a wide variety of maintenance and construction work and a thorough understanding of high voltage, low voltage and mechanical systems in the network
- An understanding of outage implications on market participants and Transgrid's obligations
- Knowledge in relation to the application of Safe Systems of Work and how these can be applied in order to allow safe and efficient access to the High Voltage system to perform work
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to use Windows-based computer applications
