This is a permanent part-time (0.4FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2024

Rossmoyne Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an enthusiastic and hardworking person to join our team in the part-time role of Attendance Officer (0.4FTE - 2 days per week).

Attendance Officers should work collaboratively with Student Central staff to identify and monitor student absenteeism and attendance. They should be the first point of contact for parents and students regarding attendance matters which will include responding to absence-related enquiries, entering attendance data accurately, reviewing and updating student records, providing support to students and parents regarding pastoral care and providing clerical support to assist with student engagement activities.

Previous computer experience, particularly with Student Information Systems (SIS), SEQTA or similar databases to maintain student records, would be highly desirable.

The successful applicant will ideally be customer service focused with strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. They will also ideally be reliable, self-motivated and able to meet deadlines in a busy environment. In addition, they should possess the ability to work well within a team environment providing support to the administration team, support staff, teaching staff and school community.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements (selection criteria):

  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
  • Ability to liaise with stakeholders to achieve improved outcomes for adolescents.
  • Ability in using computers and a range of application software packages, particularly databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Effective planning and organisational skills and experience in providing administrative support.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Eligibility and training requirements

Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment;
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement;
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
