On this occasion, we are offering an exceptional opportunity to join the Fire Ant Suppression Taskforce in Southern Brisbane. Not only will you join a team on the move in a really positive manner, you will also avail of a contract until June 2026 at a minimum.
As Biosecurity Extensions Officer, your role will see you take the lead on building relationships across the vast network of Primary Producers in South East Queensland. In doing so, you will promote the adoption of fire ant reduction and eradication activities such as surveillance, baiting and education of the various workers on the ground. With the role being very active, you will spend a large portion of time on the road in the Logan River Valley visiting producers and using your well honed communications skills to encourage Fire Ant eradication. You will also have free materials to provide to producers which they can use on their lands.
In any one day, you will undertake a huge variety of duties including:
• Planning and undertaking activities that support the communication, engagement and extension with primary producers and other large landholders in South East Queensland, to enable fire ant management.
• Provision of technical advice to large landholders and primary producers on the effective implementation of fire ant management, including risk mitigation, surveillance, treatment and reporting.
• Establishing, promoting and organising workshops, meetings and engagements with large landholders and primary producers to promote fire ant management activities and options.
• Participation in workshops with key stakeholders, maintaining effective communication and relationships and providing expert advice on fire ant management activities in accordance with biosecurity legislation.
• Effective coordination and tracking of project activities including project deliverables and risks to deliver a number of small, often related projects under a larger project or strategy.
• Providing technical support to the operational delivery of FAST and its role in assisting the eradication efforts of the National Fire Ant Eradication Program.
• Collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team, including various functions in the National Fire Ant Eradication Program, FAST and Biosecurity Queensland

1. A qualification or relevant experience in stakeholder engagement and communication, would be well regarded.
2. A current ‘C’ class drivers’ licence.
3. The ability to build positive and long-lasting relationships across a wider variety of stakeholders in the primary production fields.
4. A truly positive outlook in relation to driving projects towards successful outcomes.
5. Successful engagement across a wide cultural landscape where communication techniques will have to be adapted to bring successful outcomes.
