About this opportunity
As the Senior Biosecurity Officer, this position provides operational leadership oversees the management of Pest Plant and animal management in partnership with community groups, stakeholders and landowners across the Scenic Rim Region.
Additionally, you’ll also:
- Lead the delivery of Council's Biosecurity Programs, including implementation of community education activities, awareness campaigns, inspection and compliance programs and associated reporting across the Scenic Rim Region.
- Mentor and guide Biosecurity Officers in the delivery of private property support activities including site inspections, invasive species identification, property pest management planning in accordance with best practice management.
- Provide specialist and high-level advice to the Principal Specialist regarding issues and activities that underpin the management of invasive species, plants and animals across the region.
- Develop strategies, policies and procedures in support of achieving the vision of Councils Biosecurity Plan
- Represent Council on a range of Biosecurity, pest plant and animal committees and forums
About you:
- Tertiary qualifications or certificate qualification with and/or considerable experience relating to plant and animal biosecurity
- Well-developed knowledge and experience in invasive species planning, management and reporting, including within the SEQ region and with a sound knowledge, or ability to acquire knowledge, of the Scenic Rim Region
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor your messaging to your target audience
- Current C Class, manual drivers licence
- Hold or possess, with the ability to obtain:
- Approval for the use of Fluoro acetic and Strychnine – Health Regulation 1996
- Commercial operator's licence – Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control Act 1966
- Local Government Powers of Entry training
