This is an opportunity to join a federal government department for an initial 6-month contract based in Brisbane. These roles are working within their Client Contact Group, who acts as a central contact point for external clients to the department. The team responds to a diverse range of phone and email enquiries and accesses information about a broad range of topics to fulfil client expectations.
Your new role
These jobs are based in a call centre environment and the main duties of a Biosecurity Officer in the Client Contact Group may include but are not limited to:
- Respond to client enquiries via telephone and email, provide accurate and timely advice to the importing community about how to import goods into Australia
- Processing inspection booking requests using departmental systems
- Manage the workflow and resourcing for inspections activities
- Disseminate and respond to electronic mail from the team generic inbox in a timely manner
- Liaise with clients and other government agencies, providing complex and technical advice as necessary
- Support import and export conditions and enquiry workflows by working in partnership with program areas and escalating matters when appropriate
- Identifying trends in biosecurity risks and escalating these to assist in targeting intelligence and risk-based activities.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to form views, provide advice and make effective evidence-based regulatory decisions in accordance with legislation, policies and procedures
- The ability to use initiative and work independently to meet operational demands while navigating through changing priorities
- The ability to work effectively and safely to achieve sound outcomes in a fast-paced and challenging environment
- The ability to problem-solve and appropriately escalate sensitive matters in a timely manner.
- The ability to use risk management tools and techniques
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively liaise with peers, management and stakeholders
- The ability to contribute to, promote and implement business change with a regulatory focus.
