We are seeking an accountant with 5 years experience to fill a vacancy over our busy period. The role will run from July to September (3 months) or July to October (4 months) subject to volume of work.

Beyond Accountancy is a modern accounting business providing services for personal clients, businesses, and self-managed super funds (SMSF). While we have a Melbourne location, we mostly operate online, allowing us to serve clients across Australia and overseas.
We do our best work with self-managed super funds, property investors, individuals new to Australia, and small-to-medium businesses. We go beyond tax forms by offering proactive advice to improve our clients' financial situations. Our individual tax return client base largely consists of professional workers, who are usually also investors or have residency issues.
Role Description
Your main role will be to prepare company financial statements and tax returns for clients across a variety of industries, with the main focus being services businesses (incl medical).
We operate using Xero Practice Manager (XPM), with most of our clients using Xero for their bookkeeping. Experience with XPM is critical. Workpapers are prepared in MS Excel.
Some clients (those with investment trusts) are processed using BGL Simple Invest. We have other staff who can handle Simple Invest clients if you do not have prior experience.
While some client contact is required via phone and email, the bulk of your role will be “back office” and so suits somebody who works efficiently and independently on their own, particularly if you enjoy working on one or two jobs in a day.
Our goal is to complete year end compliance for most of our SME clients by the end of October, and this will be the focus of your role. You will also need to review the work of other staff from time to time.

We like to be upfront with both clients and staff. The role will not suit you if:
- You have not worked in a small business recently.
- You have no experience with XPM.
- The face to face social aspect of work is important to you.
- You struggle with clear and correct English (written and verbal).
Qualifications and experience
- Good character. We believe that you can teach skills, but you cannot teach character. Important character traits for this role are integrity, honesty, kindness to colleagues and clients, and diligence in your work.
- Bachelor's degree, with CPA or CA an advantage but not essential
- Proven experience in public practice - at least 3 years
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to work independently and remotely
