About the opportunity: 

The Category Manager is responsible for developing the Annual Category and Subcategory Plans for their assigned categories in support of the Strategic plan to achieve identified goals.  The Category Manager will also be responsible for undertaking sourcing activities.

Categories managed by the Category Manager will generally contain uncomplicated contracts representing medium to low risk to SA Power Networks and Enerven.

This opportunity is being offered by way of a fixed term (6 months) contract. 

Key Responsibilities Include 

The Category Manager will be accountable for: 

  • Contributing maximum value to the business through optimum strategising, structuring and organising the supply of their assigned categories, including selecting the “right” supplier base, implementing category-specific supply strategies, and ensuring that products or services are specified and optimised with the best supplier.  
  • Gaining commitment for their Category and Subcategory Plans from business stakeholders for the strategies and recommendations needed to achieve optimal savings to support their business units while maintaining strategic supplier relations and adhering to SAPN’ Procurement Directive and QMS procedures. 
  • Developing sourcing strategies specific to their categories which align with direction given via business unit customer liaisons, whilst meeting ESG requirements. 
  • Establishment of measurements to track delivery against the savings targets established in the Category Plan. 
  • Planning and leading sourcing projects, engaging business stakeholders and the required cross-functional resources. 
  • Defining the supplier base, securing capacity, planning implementation (timeline, resources, cost, etc), while aligning with business stakeholder expectations. 
  • Leading negotiation, implementation and amendment of contracts ensuring legal adequateness, commercial viability and appropriate risk management. 
  • Executing the agreed Plans and sourcing strategies, whilst ensuring suppliers’ contract compliance. 

About you 

To be successful in this role you will have advanced strategic sourcing skills as well as highly developed category management, supplier relationship management and negotiation skills. Project Management expertise is a must as well as be able to lead and influence a large and diverse set of internal and external stakeholders. You will have advanced skills in data and financial analysis and have a strategic and innovative mind-set.  

Other criteria include:  

  • Degree in Procurement and/or the equivalent level of skills and knowledge gained through experience  
  • Experience in Category sourcing 
  • Required to work outside normal working hours on occasions to meet key targets
