Reporting directly to Tyler’s Milkbar owners, the Kitchen Operations Supervisor will support the Kitchen Manager in creating and maintaining efficient operations in the areas of food storage and preparation, hygiene, cleaning and equipment maintenance. With the aim of growing the business’ regular customer base and exceeding customer expectations on each and very visit, The Kitchen Operations Supervisor strives to maintain consistency in the preparation and service of all menu items and baked goods whilst working efficiently to hit target preparation times. The KOS will also assist in creating weekly specials that tie-in with the cafe’s menu theme, whilst striving to utilise seasonal produce and reduce food waste, engaging a top-to-tail approach throughout food preparation. We make nearly everything in house, including a wide range of simple, nostalgic baked goods.
This role includes:
> Run service in our small kitchen (2 cooks chefs/one kitchenhand)
> Use creative skills in conjunction with seasonal food guide and any surplus produce/ingredients to create specials that tie into Tyler’s Milkbar food/menu theme: Wholesome, nostalgic, classic, fresh, simple food; prepared with care, made from scratch, seasonal, colourful, playful, nourishing, dietary-considerate.
> Providing training & support to kitchenhands/cooks to help them grow in their role
> Complete preparation of all menu items to receipe with a sharp eye for detail, using cookery skills & knowledge to ensure consistency and minimise wastage
> Use time management & delegation skills to complete preparation of menu components/baked goods outside of peak service periods in conjuction with the Kitchen Manager
> Assist the Kitchen Manager in maintaining stock levels of all ingredients: creating ordering lists, placing orders & liasing with suppliers.
> Liase with FOH staff during service to keep meal wait times/menu item availability up-to-date at all times.
> Use strong leadership & communication skills to maintaine a vibrant, nurturing & gentle energy in the kitchen/cafe.
Whats ahead?
We're currently fitting out a new production kitchen two-doors-down from our current space so that we can increase our storage, efficiency & offering of whole cakes & baked goods as well as some catering in the future. There is room to grow with us this year as we make this transition!
Hours
FT - 38 hours per week. No overtime. Flexible to be over 4 or 5 days. Currently closed Sundays.
Salary - Negotiable. 65K > 75K based on candidates experience.
