CRA is the national industry body representing Australia's commercial radio industry. Currently, CRA has 260 members, representing 99% of commercial radio licensees on air in both metropolitan and regional markets.
CRA provides industry members a broad range of services including regulation and policy development, audience research and survey methodology, promotion, and marketing of radio and audio as an advertising vehicle, and strategic planning to advance the listening consumption and advertising appeal of radio and audio in an increasingly digital environment.
The CEO serves as the primary leader and representative of the commercial radio industry, overseeing a diverse range of functions crucial to its success. This role requires exceptional leadership, strategic vision, and a deep understanding of the radio and audio landscape in both traditional and digital formats from regulatory, listener and commercial perspectives.
Reporting to the CRA Board, the CEO will be responsible for identifying, planning, and driving initiatives that advance the industry's interests, enhance its competitiveness, and promote radio and audio for the benefit of member organisations as a vital medium for audiences and advertisers alike.
Success in this role will be measured by the CEO's ability to cultivate a high-performing team that consistently achieves its goals through collaborative efforts and continuous development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and articulate a clear vision and strategic direction for CRA, aligned with the evolving landscape of media consumption and advertising.
- Manage engagement with the CRA Board, including ensuring the overall CRA agenda is aligned with the critical areas required by members.
- Identify emerging trends and opportunities in the radio and audio landscape, driving strategic initiatives to capitalise on digital innovations and evolving consumer behaviours.
- Foster partnerships and collaborations with technology providers, content creators, and other industry players to enhance the industry's competitiveness and relevance.
- Serve as the primary advocate and spokesperson for the commercial radio industry, representing member interests in regulatory and policy discussions at political and regulatory body level.
- Engage in lobbying to influence legislation and regulations affecting the commercial radio industry, working closely with government officials, regulatory bodies, and industry stakeholders.
- Oversee audience research initiatives including oversight, management, and strategic development of the industry’s survey methodology.
- Develop and execute promotional campaigns to increase radio and audio's visibility and relevance among audiences, advertisers, and the broader media market.
- Drive initiatives to position radio and audio as a compelling advertising vehicle for businesses, leveraging its unique reach, engagement, and targeting capabilities to grow radio and audio's total share of advertising revenue.
- Collaborate with network representatives to develop and implement strategies that promote radio's and audio's effectiveness and ROI to advertisers across various sectors.
- Oversee employment relations advisory services to members providing timely, accurate and informative advice.
Skills, Knowledge & experience required:
- Excellent interpersonal communication, verbal, and written skills.
- Strategic thinker and problem solver, with the ability to turn ideas into actionable plans, align stakeholders, and lead their execution.
- Commercial and financial acumen; ability to develop robust business cases for investment.
- Exceptional ability to consult with, influence and negotiate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, including board members, network owners, and regulators, with the ability to build consensus among diverse stakeholders with diverse needs.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and policy frameworks governing the media sector in Australia, with demonstrated success in planning and leading advocacy and lobbying efforts.
- Experience gained in c-suite level role within the media industry, preferably with a focus on radio or audio broadcasting, and / or another similar industry body.
- A proven track record of leading teams to build capability and fostering an environment of collaboration and achievement with the ability to inspire and empower team members to excel individually and collectively.
- Experience organising and managing industry events, conferences, and forums to facilitate networking, knowledge sharing.
