THE OPPORTUNITY
Following rapid growth in Legal and IP work, we have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Lawyer to join the b.box legal team on apart-time time basis. This role would be ideal for someone who has an interest in commercial law and IP. In addition to the usual contract and commercial work, a key area of work for the team is around creating and enforcing IP rights in more than 60 countries.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Located in b.box’s Notting Hill head office (near Monash Clayton), reporting to the Head of Legal and IP while working alongside other Commercial Lawyers and patent attorneys, you will be responsible for:
- Advising on IP contentious matters, and TM & Design filings and prosecution.
- Reviewing and advising on general contracts, corporate & commercial matters.
- Reviewing retailer T&Cs and negotiating key provisions.
- Supporting the business with reviewing stakeholder contracts, including agency, service, vendor, and licensing agreements to ensure the contracts are reasonable for b.box.
- Drafting and supporting the negotiation of a variety of commercial agreements.
- Advising on regulatory compliance related issues and preparing materials to support this.
- Ensuring the business is informed on the impact of legislation and regulatory requirements which may affect it and managing and advising on any disputes and regulatory complaints.
- Working with the legal team to undertake a review of current privacy & consumer law and provide recommendations for the business to implement.
ABOUT YOU...
- You are an enthusiastic, pro-active lawyer, who has a commercial approach.
- You can review lengthy standard form contracts from third parties and identify the small number of commercially ‘problematic’ clauses that require amendment.
- You have excellent review and negotiation skills and the abilities to deal with all levels of the organisation and meeting timeframes is essential.
- You are a pragmatic team player with a willingness to learn and contribute to a business is sought for this role.
- You are somebody who likes to stay across important regulatory issues and can prepare plain-English policy and other documentation to ensure ongoing compliance.
- You will be able to progress matters independently to be ready for sign-off by the Head of Legal.
YOU’LL BRING
- At least 5 to 10 years post qualification legal experience, In-house legal experience, or strong law firm background.
- Experience in several of the following functional areas is desirable: IP contentious, commercial contracting, TM and Design prosecution, consumer & privacy law.
- Excellent attention to detail and be able to identify key issues amongst standard form agreements.
- Desire to work as part of a dynamic, well supported, collaborative team.
- Exposure to or understanding of consumer products or retailing companies will be an advantage.
- Strong analytical skills, a well-grounded commercial approach, the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and build strong & trusted relationships.
