About the role:
Due to growth across our group, we are seeking a Commercial Manager to join our Northern Territory Team.
Reporting to the Executive General Manager with secondary line reporting to Chief Risk & Compliance Officer, the candidate’s primary responsibility will be to drive risk management and compliance with systems and process and also contribute towards continuous improvement of Company systems and process. This role will also work in collaboration with key internal stakeholders to ensure appropriate internal controls and governance for commercial and financial management, procurement and system adoption are in place.
This will include, but is not limited to:
- Have ownership for group financial performance, auditing of projects and accountability for project risk management
- Timely and cost-effective purchase, management and provision of materials, parts, supplies and services across projects.
- Mentor, support and train the Commercial Advisors in commercial and financial management issues, systems and process
- Lead staff on best practice commercial management of projects
- Lead proper use of (including roll out of new) systems and processes related to project and commercial management
- Review existing systems and processes and proposed new processes and systems
- Assist in undertaking negotiations with customers and subcontractors with respect to contract terms, variations, quality issues and any disputes or potential disputes with a view to early resolution
- Ensure Company streams and processes are followed including (but not limited to):
- Subcontracts/supplier agreements and contract reviews
- Final head contracts issued by clients are reviewed and executed
- Maintain live register of all sub-contractor/supplier agreements
- Look after projects reporting, project meetings, projects set up and appropriate processes for budgeting, cost tracking and forecasting
- Progress claims and variation claims are managed in a timely manner
- Development of annual budget and prepare forecasting report
- Develop process for tender evaluation ensuring optimum vendor is engaged on best value and on performance basis.
About you:

To be successful in the role you will need to have:
- Qualifications in Commercial, Business, Accounting, Supply Chain or related field
- At least 7 -10 years’ experience in commercial management with minimum 5 years’ experience of commercial management experience in the building and construction industry.
- Strong leadership skills with an ability to lead change and develop/mentor staff
- Proven problem-solving ability, detailed orientation and effective inter-personal skills
- Proficient in use of MS Suite, ERP Systems (e.g., Pronto, SAP, Oracle) and Project Management platforms (e.g., ProCore, Aconex)
- Ability to handle and resolve all vendors/suppliers complains and comments
- Good time management and adherence to agreed costs, schedules and timeframes
- Ability to work under pressure situation, multi- task and manage various projects elements simultaneously
- Understanding of commercial and project risk management with sound understanding of construction work, contracts and other processes/procedures
