Council Support Officer

The Town of Bassendean is a small local government that sits along the Derbarl Yerrigan on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk Noongar people. About the Team

The CEO Office is responsible for providing executive, administrative and governance support for the CEO, Mayor and Councillors. We provide expertise in strategy and local government regulatory frameworks, strive for leadership in good governance and actively collaborate with other teams to achieve the Town’s priorities.

Responsible for providing high-quality support services across Council, Committees, and general functions.

About you

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

• Attendance at Council and other relevant meetings to provide support and coordination, including minute taking.
• Coordinating, compiling and distributing agendas and minutes for meetings of Council and Committees.
• Updating attendance lists, follow-up action lists, and other Town registers including but not limited to; resolutions of council, gifts, delegations, returns and Councillor training.
• Communicating and follow up administrative actions (such as Questions taken on Notice, requests from the public) arising from Council and Committee meetings.
• Coordinating Council and other relevant meeting information and documentation and ensure it is advertised, recorded and distributed, as per the Council Policy and appropriately stored, in line with Council’s Records Policy.
• Providing support and assistance with tasks for local government elections.

Salary and Benefits

This Permanent part-time role attracts a salary of between $72,939 to $77,587 pro rata plus superannuation.

The Town also offers up to 5% additional superannuation (conditions apply), free parking, ongoing training and professional development, and up to two additional leave days per calendar year.

Working Hours

The position is a part time role that requires a person to be flexible with their working hours as both day and/or evening work will be required. The successful applicant will be required to attend both Council and Committee meetings.

Other minute taking duties at other Committees are likely to be required. This year’s timetable of the meetings is available with the position description.
