Cultural Support Worker – Perth (Boorloo)

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Aboriginal Cultural Support Worker to join our Perth Metro – Western Australia team. The role will effectively support Key Assets WA cultural responsiveness, cultural awareness, and the provision of cultural safety for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people accessing Key Assets WA services. The aim of the role is to promote the wellbeing of vulnerable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people by culturally supporting and building the capacity of those adults responsible for their care.

About the role:

Reporting to the Cultural Practice Lead, the aim of the role is to support and promote the cultural, social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal children and young people accessing Key Assets services.

  • To be committed to cultural mentoring with non-Aboriginal families to ensure Aboriginal children are well cared for and live in a culturally safe environment.
  • To respond professionally, in a trauma informed manner to children and young people and families who use Key Assets services. Work with Carers to ensure birth families and Aboriginal communities play a significant role in maintaining a child’s cultural connection and identity.

  • Engage, consult, and co-design solutions for children with Carers, Key Assets Social Workers and Cultural Practice Lead to deliver the best outcomes for children and their families. Identify and remove barriers to improve cultural plans.

About you:

You have knowledge of First Nations Culture, communities, families, children and young people Additionally, are passionate about making a difference in the lives of others? Do you want to make a meaningful impact in the community? Do you have the drive and vision to contribute to our values?

  • Identify as Aboriginal in accordance with the Equal Opportunity Act Section 50D
  • Certificate III or similar qualification in children’s service/youth/social work/community services or relevant experience
  • Experience working directly with children/young people and/or Carers in OOHC
  • A basic understanding of IT
  • Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with children/young people and adults
