Our Branch
The Traveller, Cargo and Trade Systems (TCTS) Branch provides support and enhancements to more than 90 critical border management systems.
These critical border systems automate a number of operational functions and facilitate the movement of legitimate goods and people across our borders for the economic and social development of our nation and through specialised targeting, assist in interdicting contraband and people who do not have a legal basis for entering Australia. The branch directly contributes to enhancing the integrity and efficiency of trade and traveller systems.
Our Section
The Traveller Systems Section is responsible for providing reliable ICT applications to process travellers crossing Australia's Border. Our focus is delivering technologies, automation of operational work practices and enhancing the traveller experience. We collaborate across government, community, industry and international partners to identify issues and work to resolve them. Traveller Systems Section advances a prosperous and secure Australia through travel facilitation and modernisation. The SmartGates and associated systems enable Biometric Facial Recognition, border clearance, security checks, data sharing and traveller alerts. This supports enforcement activities across the border continuum.
Our ideal candidate
- Work with business areas to understand requirements and develop a work program that takes into account required regular maintenance, minor systems enhancements, and review and advice on new demand
- Manage a team of technical staff to deliver a successful maintenance and minor enhancement program that achieves the outcome of improved support and operational efficiencies
- Prepare financial estimates for specific changes and system releases and develop delivery schedules based on capacity and capability of the section and other delivery teams involved in the release life cycle
- Coordinate the development of detailed system designs and strategies for program coding, integration and implementation of business needs
- Ensure that ICT standards in the design and implementation of systems are followed.
Duties and responsibilities
- Manage day to day service delivery activity across business areas and ICT
- Develop excellent working relationships with business areas and become their "go to" person for post implementation requirements
- Review all support reports for business areas and work closely with the Director
- Develop effective relationships with business teams, ensuring high satisfaction
- Arrange and conduct regular support meetings with business, internal and external stakeholders and ICT.
Additional information
Experience in the following will be highly regarded:
- Configuration Management
- Knowledge of Traveller Systems
- ITIL knowledge
- Knowledge in developing business applications for deployment using a standard system development lifecycle (analysis, design, building, testing, and implementation) methodology
- The ability to translate business requirements into functional and technical specifications
- Developing and maintaining large IT solutions
- IT development in the application development environment, change control, testing and deployment
- Project Management
- The production of system and user documentation for developed business applications.

Eligibility
To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.
The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).
