Design Engineer to be part of Fortescue's new, large and deep pit magnetite operations.The
Design Engineer will play a key role in shaping the operation of all major projects. This would suit a mining professional who is seeking a diverse, challenging and forward thinking opportunity. Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer 2 Year Planning, you will be involved in engaging and aligning stakeholders across the business, detailed designs for medium term horizon (2 - 5 years), project work and development of design processes.
Key Responsibilities- Produce and/or review designs for operational execution, scheduling, and projects
- Work collaboratively with Strategic and Operations Planning to produce effective and executable designs
- Cost analysis of mine infrastructure plan and design
- Cross-train and fulfillment of all mine planning functions as required
- Contribute to ongoing site improvement initiatives and projects
- Contribute to design processes, procedures and QAQC systems
Qualifications and Experience- Tertiary qualification within an industry related discipline or proven equivalent operational experience within open pit mining
- Capability with a Mining CAD package (such as Vulcan or Datamine)
- Analytical mindset with previous exposure to cost benefit, analysis and optimisation studies
- Exposure to ARC-GIS
- Ability to work effectively unsupervised with a strong desire to innovate, problem solve and approach work with new ideas
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills including technical writing
- Intermediate level with MS Office products including MS Excel, MS Word, Power BI, Power Automate and Power Apps
- Programming experience - Python, C/C++ and VBA highly desirable
