Director of AlliedHealth and Learning and Development Royal Melbourne Hospital Mental Health Services Exciting new leadership role Full time, ongoing Your new role: The Director of AlliedHealth and Learning and Development is a new role which will provide leadership and direction for Allied Health across RMH Mental Health Services. The role is also responsible for the RMH MHS Learning and Development program, ensuring a whole of service approach to Learning and Development, aligned with our practice reform to establish a holistic approach to service delivery at RMH MHS, and the outcomes of the Royal Commission into Victoria’s Mental Health Service System. The position provides direct support to the senior Allied Health leadership group, and to senior Learning and Development educators. About the Role: Royal Melbourne Hospital Mental Health Services provides person-centred, recovery-oriented care, treatment and support through our multi-disciplinary workforce of skilled and dynamic clinicians and Lived and Living experience (LLE) consumer and carer experts. We are dedicated to providing caring and high-quality specialist community and hospital-based mental health services for adults and older adults who are experiencing, or are at risk of developing a serious mental illness.

We have a robust future ahead as the lead mental health service for the Victorian Collaborative Centre for Mental Health and Wellbeing Service, and also as the lead adult mental health service for Transforming Trauma Victoria (Statewide Trauma Service). These programs will drive mental health reform across the sector, and will offer a wide range of opportunities for involvement of staff within the RMH MHS. Our partnerships with multiple community and academic organisations support our program and enable a sophisticated learning structure, with a focus on research translation. In partnership with the RMH MHS Directors, and with the support of the allied Health and Learning and Development leaders, the role is critical to implementation of reforms following from the Royal Commission into the Mental Health Services System in Victoria. The role is primarily accountable for performance and quality of Allied Health professionals and programs within the service, and the delivery of a high-quality Learning and Development program incorporating all discipline perspectives.

The overall functions include: Responsibility for managing and leading the Allied Health discipline leaders, and the Learning and Development educators. Ensuring high-quality, evidence-based care, treatment and support, underpinned by six key practice domains (see Appendix) is fully implemented in the program and offered as routine care for consumers and carers/supporters. Delivery of the learning program, including group and tiered learning approaches dependent on experience, and the supervision structure for the service. Operational delivery of the range of specific Allied Health services, and profession-led delivery of specific interventions that are expected to be provided by key clinicians. Financial management of a range of roles and programs. Workforce planning and performance review for the Allied Health disciplines and the L&D team. Oversight of the Early Career Program, including liaison with nursing leadership colleagues to minimise duplication. Driving a culture of continuous service improvement. Monitoring critical service metrics especially as related to delivery of core and specific specialist mental health interventions. Participation in the after-hours on-call roster as required. The role contributes as a member of the RMH Mental Health Services executive and participates in a range of service review, planning, development, and monitoring activities.

About you: You have highly developed interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, and evidence of effective stakeholder engagement. You have demonstrated expertise in implementing evidence-based mental health services to people with severe and enduring mental illness. You have a strong track record in providing professional leadership, and the ability to initiate, develop and evaluate programs in a public mental health setting You have experience within mental health settings working in senior leadership roles.
