Job description

Ace Hotel Sydney is our first-ever spot in Australia, inhabiting a historic building set in the verve of Surry Hills. Inspired by the neighbourhood’s vibrant rhythm, Ace Sydney is home to a bustling public Lobby alive nearly nightly with DJs and performers, a rebellious art program and a sunken lounge just off the Lobby bar. We’ve also got three distinct restaurants led by award-winning culinary pros, including local legend Chef Mitch Orr. Here at Ace, we are more than just a Hotel as we embrace the city spaces built for gathering and celebrating local culture, food, music and art. This 18-storey hotel was built around the iconic Tyne House inspired by the neighbourhood’s vibrant rhythm as it is designed to operate as an always-evolving call and response with the community we live in - a two way channel for creativity, collaboration and curiosity. Now all we need is you.

The Gig -

We are seeking an industrious individual with demonstrated expertise and experience in advanced human resource management, encompassing areas such as industrial relations, workforce planning, employee relations, inclusive leadership, risk assessment, strategic HR planning, as well as performance and change management. We're looking for someone who can exhibit strong management, leadership, and team-building skills. You'll be responsible for spearheading the creation and execution of a talent management framework, which includes establishing policies, procedures, and processes. Additionally, you'll manage the entire employee lifecycle, from recruitment to performance enhancement, fostering positive employee relations, enhancing engagement, and ensuring retention. You'll also be involved in driving various HR projects and initiatives that align with the organisation's growth and strategic objectives, offering strategic guidance for continuous quality improvement. Assuming full responsibility for the HR function, delivering expert, consistent, and collaborative support across all HR matters. Lead organisational development and change initiatives, with a focus on enhancing Diversity, People & Culture, and Leadership capabilities as you drive the ongoing development of a positive organisational culture, employee engagement, and performance standards. Develop, maintain, and implement HR systems, processes, policies, and infrastructure in alignment with business objectives and the global vision, while also leading and nurturing team members through coaching, mentoring, and performance management, and acting as a pivotal advisor on risk management.

About you -

We are on the lookout for a proactive and positive thinker with at least 5 years of leadership experience in Human Resource functions, preferably in hospitality or with a strong understanding of the HIGA Award.  You have a comprehensive grasp of Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) which will equip you with the skills to effectively apply this knowledge appropriately in the workplace. As you take pride in your capability to meet both business and employee expectations.

Abilities and qualifications include:

  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive HR experience, with demonstrated expertise in organisational development, culture change, and employee engagement.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with a proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships at all levels of the organisation.
  • Highly developed leadership capabilities, with a track record of successfully developing, motivating, and leading high-performing teams, along with a strategic mindset and problem-solving skills.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or equivalent is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
Additionally, candidates should possess superior organisational and time management skills, be natural leaders capable of fostering positive relationships and mentoring team members, and be enthusiastic about working in a modern hotel environment.

The Perks -

Joining our team means more than just working at one of Sydney's iconic new award-winning venues. It's about becoming a key player in a community-driven, creative, and original team…plus you’ll get the chance to work with interesting clients such as music tour groups, creative start-ups, and movie production teams.

And that's not all, enjoy attractive staff benefits, including:

  • Bonus Program
  • Generous F&B Discounts: 50% discount for you and your friends dining with you across all Ace Sydney food & beverage outlets (Kiln, Lobby, Loam, Good Chemistry).
  • Global Room Rate Discounts: Benefit from exclusive discounts on Ace accommodations worldwide.
  • Retail Perks: Access special discounts on Ace retail products.
    Community volunteering and birthday leave.
  • Various programs and events for Reward and Recognition, prioritising Health and Wellbeing, including superior Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).
  • Ample Training and Development opportunities.
  • Attractive compensation structure with benefits from parking to health & wellness

Discover a workplace where excellence meets enjoyment, and your contributions are truly valued.
