About the role The Operational DER Management team, within AEMO Operations, is responsible for integration of distributed energy resources (DER) into AEMO’s operational and technical functions. As our Engineer, you will develop and apply power system models to understand the impacts of distributed energy resources (DER) on power system security.
What you will be doing
- Contribute to a work program to improve power system models for composite load, distributed PV, and other types of DER
- Contribute to drafting reports and presentations that summarise findings, suitable for internal and external circulation
- Collaborate with other AEMO teams and external stakeholders (such as network service providers) to support their work applying DER & load models and studying DER impacts on power system stability, limits, and operational management
- Respond to requests for advice from real-time operations, running power system studies and analysis as necessary
What you will bring to the role
- Tertiary qualification in electrical engineering or similar with a power system focus
- Programming skills and experience (such as python), particularly to develop scripts to automate batch studies and data preparation
- Experience running dynamic power system studies in PSSE, PSCAD, PowerFactory, or similar platforms is desirable
- Quantitative analysis skills, including problem solving, modelling, and critical thinking
- Ability to prepare high quality reports and summaries of analysis
