About the role:
This role will lead TEQ's Corporate Affairs, government relations and corporate communications to raise the profile of the Queensland tourism industry, and to strategically enhance TEQ's relationships with key stakeholders including Government, media and industry. With the Queensland's tourism industry aspirational goal of growing overnight visitor expenditure to $44 billion by 2032, this is a critical role reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and managing the office of the CEO.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop corporate communication and Corporate Affairs strategies that are aligned with TEQ's priorities;
- Provide strategic advice and solutions to CEO, Board, TEQ leadership team, the department, and the Minister's office regarding TEQ input into Government responses and communication processes / protocols;
- Lead TEQ's ministerial and government relations and reporting activity;
- Liaise, consult and influence key stakeholders including government departments, and the Minister's office;
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with Tourism Australia, Regional Tourism Organisations, industry, media and other relevant stakeholders; and
- As a member of the executive team provide leadership across TEQ to ensure all Groups deliver on TEQ's strategic priorities.
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Extensive experience in developing and implementing media and government relation strategies in a statutory body, government-owned corporation or government agency;
- Experience working with the media including the ability to act as a spokesperson and provide advice;
- Extensive understanding of government processes, and the accountability and reporting framework;
- Innovative, analytical thinking, ability to influence and work under pressure;
- Existing strong network of contacts within the Government, media and Australian tourism and events sectors; and
- Proven ability to inspire leadership, enthusiasm and commitment from the team.
Additional information:
- Applications will remain current for a period of up to 12 months after the closing date of the original vacancy and may be used for recurring or similar vacancies;
- A probationary period of three months will apply to appointees external to TEQ;

- The successful applicant is required to disclose any employment as a lobbyist in the previous two years. The disclosure will need to be made during the selection process to the panel chair and again within the first month of employment.
