Our Academic Cardiology Practice based at the Royal Prince Alfred Medical Centre in Newtown, Sydney is looking for a qualified Cardiac Technician to join our team. We have broad interests in acute, chronic and complex heart disease.
We offer a comprehensive range of services to patients and referring doctors. Our cardiologists specialise in a wide range of adult heart disorders, including but not limited to Coronary Disease, Hypertension, Heart failure, Cardiomyopathy, Valvular Heart disease, Aortic disease including Marfan Syndrome, Heart Rhythm disorders and Familial and Congenital heart disease. We also have special interests in Sleep Apnoea and Heart disease and Heart:Lung interactions.
We conduct a variety of non-invasive tests such as cardiac ultrasound examinations (echocardiogram), including 3D and Doppler studies, exercise stress echo, 24-hour ECG and BP recordings, long term ECG recording and assessments of Implanted Devices.
Our Interventional Cardiologists perform invasive tests such as angiograms, angioplasty, stenting and coronary and renal artery interventions at Royal Prince Alfred and Strathfield Private Hospitals. Join us in our mission to provide top-tier cardiology services.

Job Description:
The successful candidate will be responsible for fitting and interpreting cardiac devices for patients such as 24-hour blood pressure monitors, 24 Holter monitors, Heart Bug event monitors (long term ECG monitoring) and sleep apnoea measuring devices; they will perform electrocardiogram (ECGs) and blood pressure checks on patients and monitor implanted devices such as pacemakers, defibrillators and loop recorders.
The role will suit an energetic and ambitious individual who has excellent people skills with an ability to communicate clearly with patients, colleagues and other health professionals. Given that patients attending the practice are sick and often stressed, an ability to maintain a caring approach to patients and their families is paramount.
The position of Cardiac Technician reports to A/Professor Michele McGrady, the Director of our Echocardiology and Technical Laboratories, and the Practice Manager, Ruth Sullivan.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Fitting and interpreting 24-hour Holter monitors, 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitors and home sleep apnoea measuring devices.
- Reviewing and monitoring implanted devices such as defibrillators, pacemakers, and loop recorders.
- Preparing patients for ECG tests (electrocardiogram), performing ECGs.
- Documenting and recording the outcome of cardiology examinations and coordinating with the attending physician to arrange any necessary subsequent tests.
- Maintaining cardiology equipment and apparatus through regular cleaning, sterilising and testing.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health Sciences
- Two years’ experience in Cardiac Technician/Cardiac Physiologist role
- Knowledge of performing ECGs and interpreting 24-hour Holter monitors, ambulatory Blood Pressure (BP) monitors and sleep apnoea measuring devices
- Thorough knowledge of cardiovascular diseases, including their identification and therapeutic strategies.
- Skilled in using cardiological tools, such as ECG machines and blood pressure measuring cuffs.
- Proven skills in performing regular maintenance on medical equipment and apparatus
- Proven competence in performing regular servicing of medical devices
- Extensive understanding of professional healthcare guidelines, protocols, procedures and compliance with federal, state and local laws
- Able to demonstrate capability to function well in a team setting and work cooperatively with peers
- Exceptional patient interaction and communication skills
Salary/Compensation
- The role offers an attractive salary with an annual earning of between AUD $72,800 and $93,600 per year plus Super (dependent on experience)
