PieLAB Capital is an investment group which primarily invests in Australian based small and medium businesses with earnings between $1M and $5M. We distinguish ourselves from traditional investment or private equity firms in that we want to hold businesses for the long term. Our goal is to build a significant portfolio of small and medium sized businesses, working with talented CEOs and executives.
We are first and foremost a results driven entrepreneurial company made up of great people who love the challenges of building small businesses. The finance teams’ aim is to support the portfolio of SMEs across a variety of industries with meaningful and timely financial data so that decisions are data driven.

The Position
The successful applicant will be a self-motivated, high achieving Finance Officer who relishes variety, has an eye for detail and enjoys being part of a close-knit team. This is a key role as we look to grow our in-house accounting function for our portfolio companies. It will provide a great breadth of exposure and opportunity to contribute to a growing funds manager and portfolio of SMEs.
Additionally, the role will provide an opportunity to assist with finance strategy, engage directly with all the senior stakeholders and to define a career path with an exciting emerging Australian company. The successful applicant will be supported by the senior accountant and broader finance team in delivering the key responsibilities for a variety of companies.
The successful applicant for this position must be Brisbane based. We offer a hybrid working environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting/ Bookkeeping – end to end finance function for portfolio companies, including but not limited to AP/AR, payroll, job costing, treasury management, reporting and tax
Payroll – payroll function for portfolio companies including maintaining payroll records, accurately processing wages including compliance with relevant awards and regulations, STP reporting, payroll tax, superannuation compliance
Reconciliations – Balance Sheet reconciliations, reconciliations to internal systems
Tax compliance – responsible for preparing portfolio tax obligations (GST, PAYG, payroll tax)
Stakeholder Management – Establish and manage stakeholder relationships across different functions of the portfolio companies to ensure business need’s are being met
Compliance – Maintain the compliance register
Skills and Experience
Must have’s
- 3+ years’ bookkeeping experience
- Strong Excel abilities
- Experience in payroll
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Australian permanent resident
- Experience accounting for SMEs
- Bachelors degree in Commerce or Business (Accounting) or equivalent Diploma/Certificate
- Excellent attention to detail
A combination of some of the following technical skills and experience
- Experience with MYOB/Xero
- Operational accounting experience
