About the role:
The Financial Accountant - C&I East Coast will be an integral part of the Merchant Energy Accounting team, managing the month end process, reporting, process improvement and ad hoc analysis. The role supports Alinta's Commercial & Industrial business in the East Coast, and is a mix of regular processes and process improvement. It suits a qualified accountant looking to make a real difference to the Finance landscape, while working in a fast paced, complex environment.
In this role, you'll be:
- Managing the month end process for the Commercial & Industrial business, including coordination of various inputs, calculation models and reporting in an efficient and accurate manner
- Working cross-functionally to understand key variances, performing adhoc analysis and focusing on the root cause, and proposing solutions
- Following up on unresolved issues, working with the broader team to implement change, and leveraging data to provide insight to stakeholders
- Designing and building reporting using complex, granular data to demonstrate a solid commercial understanding of the results
- Identifying areas for improvement and implementing practical means to improve efficiency of financial results, and identifying and addressing risks relating to balance sheet and communicating these effectively to a broad audience
- Demonstrated experience as a Qualified Accountant
- Exposure to AIFRS financial reporting and complex group structure and comfortable working in a complex, data driven environment
- Basic financial modelling skills or experience building models to support financial processes and analysis
- Exposure and understanding of the National Energy Market (“NEM”) is desirable, but not mandatory
- Advanced MS Office, particularly Microsoft Excel, experience using Oracle Financial Consolidation and Close and HFM/SmartView would be beneficial
