This is a newly created position that offers a diverse opportunity for an experienced Analyst/Accountant. Ultimately, this important role will contribute to support financial sustainability in the Local Government sector in South Australia.
Reporting to the Manager Financial Analysis, you will be responsible for conducting financial analysis of Councils and subsidiaries, providing accounting advice and assistance, in addition to providing banking services and contributing to the development of LGFA financial products.
This role requires strong skills in financial modelling, data analysis, stakeholder management, and strategic planning. You will collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders, preparing and delivering presentations and reports outlining project feasibility, revenue, and cost drivers to inform business decisions.
Core Role and Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough financial analysis of Council and subsidiaries' strategic documents, ensuring accuracy, soundness, and providing meaningful insights within specified timeframes.
- Provide accounting advice and assistance to Council, subsidiaries and other LGFA stakeholders, including assistance in the preparation of financial reports, in collaboration with the Manager Financial Analysis.
- Contribute to the strategic direction of LGFA including research and comprehension of current and future financial market products and other key initiatives.
- Provide support and backup for the Money Market Dealer and Accounts Payable functions.
- Cultivate a culture of customer service, continuous improvement, and best practice outcomes.
About You
We are seeking an ambitious, curious-minded, customer-focused, and self-driven candidate who is excited by the prospect of a newly created role in this dynamic and exciting organisation.
Ideally, you will be an experienced Analyst/Accountant with over 2 years of experience, with Local Government experience being highly regarded. Or you could be looking for a move out of the Profession. We are looking for an individual who is self-motivated, driven, and excited by the opportunity to contribute to and shape the future of the Local Government SA sector.
Qualifications and Skills
- Appropriate accounting/finance tertiary degree with completed professional qualifications (CA, CPA, or CCTA) or be in the process completion.
- Strong critical thinking skills, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally to assist different stakeholder needs.
- Demonstrated ability to prepare financial statements and understand corporate strategic plans, including long-term financial plan, asset management plans, and annual business plan and budgets.
- Demonstrated ability to perform research and analyse financial and non-financial data, trends, and outcomes.
- An understanding of local government best practice accounting techniques and applications.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel for writing reports and detailed analysis.
- Local government, banking or corporate experience is highly regarded.
