Our client is seeking to engage FOI Officers (Up to APS5).
Location: Adelaide SA, Canberra ACT, Newcastle NSW, Sydney NSW
Contract Length: 3 months, with option to extend up to 3 months
Eligibility/Security Requirement: Baseline Security Clearance or be able to obtain and maintain a baseline security clearance.
The role will involve:
- undertaking decision-making to process complex FOI requests
- providing advice on the operation of the to the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) to network staff
- leading and managing a team performance.
Duties may include some or all of the following:
- process FOI requests
- assist with the mentoring of and training of new staff to build knowledge and capability in relation to the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act)
- provide high quality FOI advice to staff in the DHS network, including within the FOI Team
- monitor and report on workloads, priorities and practices
- prepare correspondence on routine matters and draft documentation on complex matters for review by senior staff
- resolve escalated issues and escalate complex issues to senior staff
- undertake quality assurance activities and check adherence with relevant procedures and legislation
- contribute to the development and implementation of improvements and best practice in processes and procedures
- maintain and file records in accordance with information management processes and security requirements
- process complex FOI requests
- lead and manage a team
- Undertake quality assurance of matters
- provide high quality FOI advice to staff in the DHS network, including within the FOI Team
- provide practical assistance in the development of agency policies and processes relating to FOI
- prepare submissions to the Information Commissioner
- contribute as required to projects and new business initiatives
- as required, represent the Employment Law and FOI Branch at meetings
Knowledge and understanding of:
- legislation, policies, procedures and information management requirements relevant to the FOI function
- the agency’s privacy, ethics, workplace health and safety and security protocols
- Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and Outlook
- experience as a FOI decision maker is desirable.
Ability to:
- The successful candidate must have the ability to learn quickly and take responsibility for their development and seek assistance, when required, in a timely manner.
- They must have effective time and workload management skills with the ability to manage a large number of FOI matters to legislative requirements.
- They should have experience in the provision of high-quality customer service and a capacity to exercise sound judgment and initiative.
- The successful candidate will work under the general supervision of a FOI Director.
