An opportunity has become available for a motivated individual to join our large successful Company as Food Technologist at our Beresfield Facility. Reporting to the Product Development Manager, you will be required to manage the product development process from concept to launch for key product development projects. Ensure new products are commercialised to appropriate food and quality standards, in line with customer and business expectations. Commercialise quality new products that deliver against budgeted annual sales, volume and margin objectives. To drive continuous improvement in existing products that delivers cost saving, improved quality attributes and sustainability.
Key Responsabilities:
- Provide technical expertise across our portfolio, developing new products identifying efficiency improvements, managing cost down projects and identifying commercial opportunities
- Ensure legislation for food standards and external quality standards & processes are adhered to when commercialising new products
- Take customer concepts through to commercialisation and launch, including identifying manufacturing capability, formulating products, scale up, validation of processes, commercialisation and troubleshooting of issues
- Manage and provide leadership on technical aspects of projects; including all approval steps, documentation, risk identification and project timelines
- Evaluate raw materials, functional ingredients and packaging for suitability and quality for use in new and/or existing products and processes.
- Preparation of trials (including product formulations) and the collection and processing of data (including Sensory evaluations) to ultimately develop the product, specifications and recommendations.
- Assist in the process of conducting shelf life and nutritional testing on new products
- Proactively build relationships with team members in the product development team, across other business functions (Marketing, Quality, Operations, Procurement and Commercial) and with external vendors
- Develop new and optimised packaging / processes
- Review existing formulations with the objective to reduce costs and improve quality
- Ensure internal procedures are followed when commercialising new products (e.g. line trial reports, NIP & Organoleptic testing, Product Specification Development, PLM maintenance etc.)
- Ensure projects follow the NPD Stage Gate Process to ensure key metrics are achieved in commercialising new products.
- Regularly update the weekly status reports for NPD projects.
- Attend regular meetings with key stakeholders at the manufacturing site
- Adheres to all WHS & Environmental policies and procedures
Critical Skills and Experience Required:
- High level of attention to detail
- A solutions orientated outlook and have the ability to identify opportunities
- Possess exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Competent computer skills
- An advanced knowledge of Microsoft excel
- Be able to work and communicate within a team environment
- Enthusiastic and Passionate about food and development of products in this sector.
- Hands on approach
- Degree in Food Science or a related discipline.
- Minimum 1-2 years in a Product Development role or in a similar field
