The opportunity
We have a brand new 32-room hotel to open in the heart of Byron Bay around March 2024. We’re looking for a Front Office Supervisor to work alongside the hotels GM and Duty Managers to navigate the hotels ‘pre-opening’ phase and then seeing the hotel through to being fully stable and highly profitable.
This is a full-time salaried role. Salary by negotiation and commensurate with relevant experience. We have all the required IP for this role in-house, so are open to leaders looking to make non-linear career moves. The Front Office Supervisor is responsible for all Front of House, Reservations and Reception aspects of operating the hotel. This role works very closely with the GM and the hotel management company (JEREMY & JONES).
Commencement date: April 2024.

Duties & responsibilities
- Assist guests with reservation enquiries and think outside the box to make their stay memorable.
- Be responsible for providing prompt, courteous and efficient handling of all requests for guest reservations, changes and cancellations.
- Process all reservations prior to guest arrivals and work collaboratively with our Hosts team to ensure our guests have a seamless arrival experience and all requests are actioned.
- Manage a range of guests such as leisure, groups, corporate clients and travel agents.
- Be a House ambassador, positively representing Basq House on the phone, by email and at the reception desk.
- Cover reception shifts as needed.
- Develop and maintain departmental training manuals.
- Hold regular briefings and meetings with all hotel teams.
- Assist the GM with becoming the employer of choice in Byron Bay through great team culture, employee satisfaction and a recognition program.
- In conjunction with the hotel’s GM, you will implement all required software and hardware identified in the hotel’s technology landscape (such as PMS, POS, time & attendance etc.).
- Foster an authentic and pre-emptive service culture.
- Meet, greet, and host hotel VIP’s which may include travel journalists, influencers and others as decided on.
- Handle guest compliments, complaints and service recoveries as needed.
- Handle group enquiries and bookings.
- Develop hotel demand through engagement with local businesses and collaborators.
Prerequisites
Our ideal candidate should be authentic, confident, and purpose driven - while being humble and nurturing at the same time. Authenticity across all touch-points will be key to the hotel's success.
The ideal candidate is a highly intelligent hotel professional with outstanding management skills and hands-on experience. Available to work when needed, including weekends, holidays, and nights. Experience in opening, managing, or re-positioning a hotel or restaurant with clear track record. Excellent technology skills. At least 5 years’ experience in the hospitality industry, with luxury and international experience ideal.
