The position of a Full TimeMechanical Engineer has just become available at our office in Pymble, NSW, 2073. You will be working with a team of experienced engineers and consultants to prepare building energy thermodynamic computer models using government regulated software and create consultancy, reports and certificates for the purpose of satisfying various building regulatory frameworks. Your job, as a Mechanical Engineer is to utilise your knowledge of building mechanical and hydraulic systems as well as the core concepts of applied thermodynamics and national and state wide building codes and regulations to deliver the most accurate and compliant building models, simulations and results. Your roles would also put you in the position of direct commercial negotiation of a service with a technical design team and offer the accurate and suitable type of service and certificate for the specific type and scope of the project. You will also will be required to respond to highly technical enquiries, attend design meeting and provide technical supporting evidence for engineering design teams, certifying authorities, government agents or representatives of various legal firms.
The successful candidate must possess the following experiences and qualities;
- Minimum 2+ years' post qualification experience as a Mechanical Engineer in reputable organisations.
- Experience in computer energy modelling and simulation essential including US Department of Energy, EnergyPlus simulation engine and Design Builder software. Familiarity with HERO NatHERS thermal comfort modelling software and Speckle computer modelling software highly regarded.
- Possess a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or higher. Experience and degrees in business operations highly regarded.
- Solid understanding of building plans and thermal envelope components as well as familiarity with the National Construction Code, Building Code of Australia volume 1 and 2 sustainability and energy efficiency measures. Familiarity with NCC 2022 post 1st of October requirements in NSW highly regarded.
- Expert level understanding of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical design plans and technical documents at the highest level for complex commercial building projects.
- Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with professionals of all technical or executive level. Native or Professional level of English language proficiency essential.
- Ability to work effectively and competently with people at all levels in the organisation, outside technical engineering design teams, regulatory certifying authorities and government or legal law firms.
- Contribute on an on-going basis toward maintaining a safe working environment both for yourself and for those working with you or in your close vicinity.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines and see tasks through to completion in a fast paced and highly technical environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to negotiate effective commercial deals with clients of all levels and project of all sizes while being conscious of the necessary type and level of service based on the project and the current code.
- Excellent analytical skills and impeccable attention to detail. High level familiarity with computer systems including personal trouble shooting of network and productivity software packages in MS windows environment.
- Ability and willingness to learn highly technical and detailed computer modelling software. High degree of familiarity with the US Department of Energy, Energy Plus software and its various graphical user interfaces like UK Design Builder is essential.
- Analyse and study the building design plans, geometry, mechanical, hydraulic and electrical design plans and determine the scope of work, compliance requirements and the associated regulatory mandates applicable to the development for compliance with energy efficiency requirements of the federal and state government codes and regulations.
- Be the first point of contact for technical client enquiries and engage in scientific and regulatory discussions with the building designers, architects, mechanical and hydraulic system designers and certifying authorities.
- Completing highly details thermodynamic computer models of buildings by strict adherence to regulatory protocols and technical requirements of the Australian National Construction Code, NatHERS technical nots and handbooks, the NSW Department of Planning BASIX thermal comfort protocol as well as other related documents like software manuals.
- Perform optimisation simulations on residential and commercial building models to achieve the compliant performance requirements of building envelope elements, mechanical plants and systems, hydraulic systems and lighting systems energy efficiency requirements of the NCC.
- Study the building plans, project scope and details and coordinate with the project design team to collect the necessary information to prepare a complete building energy model based on the relevant regulatory framework.
- Be fully familiar with the documentation requirements of all types of projects to demonstrate compliance with the NCC as well as the NSW DoP regulations. Be able to issue various certificates and regulated documents based on the scope of the service provided both for residential and commercial developments.
- Be able to attend site inspections and engage in technical discussions with the building site engineers, compliance officers, council town planners and representatives of legal firms or the courts of law.
