Softball Australia is the National Sporting Organisation (NSO) for the sport and has eight member States and Territories across the country. There are over 23,000 members and over 100K players, coaches, umpires and officials in Australia ranging from grassroots through to elite talent.

Softball Australia has recently launched its new five-year strategic plan with a vision that softball is for everybody and inspiring heroes on the world stage. Position Overview

Softball Australia is seeking to recruit a ‘Game Development Officer’ in the Southern Adelaide Region.

Softball SA has a renewed focus on participation across the state at every level across all demographics which includes the demand for the sport in the southern regions of Adelaide.

Together with the support of the Active State Collaboration grant from the Office for Recreation, Sport, and Racing (ORSR) and in collaboration with the City of Onkaparinga, this role will:

• Deliver activation and engagement of softball programs to recruit and introduce new junior and adult participants in the region;

• Build the profile of Softball in the Southern suburbs of Adelaide, via delivery to local schools, and the community;

• Deliver strategic and operational support to clubs and new competitions to grow Softball in the region;

• Collaborate with Key Stakeholders to deliver objectives for Softball SA;

Key Responsibilities

• The development, planning, and implementation of a pilot program ‘the Future of Softball’ including non-traditional delivery of the sport;

• Work in collaboration with program partners City of Onkaparinga;

• Document the outcomes and benefits of the program and create a template for use across similar regions in Australia; and

• Purchase and manage equipment in the first year.

• Provide support to establish associations and clubs to become more sustainable and vibrant;

• Include existing softball programs to generate interest in the region for example; Sporting Schools, ‘Come and Try’ days, Homerun Heroes, Fully Loaded Softball, and Social 7s;

• Provide direct support to deliver competitions at all levels;

• Provide leadership within the region to develop and foster working relationships with local schools;

• Develop a high-level understanding of the barriers and drivers to participation;

• Supporting participants with the functionality of the member database system, RevolutioniseSPORT;

• Oversee the operations of the Sporting Schools program in the region;

• Support and oversee pathway opportunities for Coaches, Scorers and Umpires in the region; and

• Support other Softball SA pathway opportunities (e.g. School Holiday Clinics).

• Program & Product Implementation

Establish ‘Future of Softball’ Programs and Competitions including

o Homerun Heroes program

o Sporting Schools

o Social competitions (using short formats such as Fully Loaded softball and Social 7s)

• Development of Coaches, Officials, and Volunteers

• General Operations and Administration

Selection Criteria

• Qualification in Sport Management (or equivalent) is desirable;

• Experience in developing and implementing participation and development programs in sport and recreation or similar;

• Experience in delivering operational outcomes aligned to a broader strategy;

• High-level communication and interpersonal skills;

• Ability to present information to groups of people;

• High-level organisation, project, and task management skills;

• Ability to work autonomously and with a small team;

• High-level Microsoft Office knowledge and ability to use technology to improve performance.

• High-level stakeholder engagement skills; and

• Knowledge of the local (Southern Adelaide) region is desirable.
