About the Department

The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy leadership in relation to domestic and national security arrangements, law enforcement, emergency management, counter-terrorism, social cohesion, the protection of our sovereignty, the integrity of our border and the resilience of our national infrastructure.

The Australian Border Force, an operationally independent body within the Department of Home Affairs, is Australia's frontline border law enforcement agency and Australia's customs service. The Australian Border Force delivers critical border protection and national security outcomes while facilitating the movement of People and goods across the border. The Australian Border Force's mission is to protect Australia's border and enable legitimate travel and trade.

About the Division

People and Culture Division delivers high quality human resource (HR) services and advice to internal and external stakeholders across a broad range of HR disciplines including the employment framework, HR policy and workforce conditions, enterprise bargaining, recruitment, career management, work health and safety, industrial relations and workforce design. HR Advisors support the efficient and effective management of staff through the provision of HR services and advice to managers, staff and partner agencies. They pursue improved processes for data collection, ensuring the integrity and currency of HR systems data and work with new and current staff to develop and maintain Departmental records. These positions may also include Work Health and Safety Specialists, Employment Conditions Specialists and Industrial Relations Specialists

People and Culture Division is made up of four Branches:

  • Payroll and Conditions
  • Recruitment, Diversity and Learning
  • Health, Safety and Wellbeing
  • People Engagement, Planning and Innovation

Role Attributes

APS4 Human Resource Advisors work under general supervision to provide support to deliver Human Resources (HR) services and advice to managers and other staff.

Tasks and duties may include but is not limited to:

  • Assist in provision of logistical HR support to internal and external stakeholders in accordance with relevant legislation, departmental policies and procedures
  • Act with integrity and in accordance with APS legislation in the course of HR management activities
  • Communicate with and provide information and advice to a range of stakeholders to resolve moderately complex issues
  • Update and maintain personnel and departmental records as appropriate
  • Identify opportunities to adapt HR technologies in support of innovation and compliance
  • Assist with consultation and the implementation of feedback in the formulation of HR management strategies, policies and plans in response to changing business needs or legislation
  • Demonstrate ethical behaviour and integrity to enhance team culture and contribute to a positive workplace
  • Promote an inclusive and diverse workplace culture and ensure all staff are valued and recognised for their qualities, ideas and perspectives
  • Cultivate a high performance culture by setting an example for peers to follow.

Eligibility

To be eligible for the position you must be an Australian Citizen.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a Baseline Vetting  (AGSVA) security clearance and an Employment Suitability Clearance (ESC).

The Department of Home Affairs offers an attractive remuneration package, including salary, superannuation benefits and flexible working conditions appropriate to the level of the position.
