The South Australian Harness Racing Club (SAHRC) is an associate body of Harness Racing South Australia (HRSA), the peak governing body for the sport of harness racing in South Australia. It comprises of a network of more than 2,000 drivers, trainers, stable hands, volunteer and owners. SAHRC hosts a large percentage of the race meetings conducted in SA at Globe Derby which is the flagship venue for harness racing in South Australia.
Role Overview
Reporting to the SAHRC Committee, the General Manager is responsible for ensuring the club's profitability and success through effective leadership and management of daily operations. This role involves developing major events to promote Harness racing at the Globe Derby, attracting sponsorships and maintaining compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, particularly those related to licensed premises under the Liquor Licensing Act and Gaming Machines regulations. Key responsibilities also include financial management, human resource oversight, and fostering positive relationships with a range of stakeholders including Horse Trainers and Harness Racing SA. The General Manager will also liase with the track curator to establish training programs within the club. Other responsibilities include supporting membership growth, managing on-site facilities, and driving marketing and promotional activities.
Skills, Knowledge, Experience
The successful candidate must have prior experience in management of licensed premises or entertainment venue, particularly with food and gambling areas. SAHRC is seeking a performance-driven individual with excellent communication, customer service, conflict management and negotiation skills. This role will require the candidate to have strong financial management skills including experience with budget development, revenue management and cost analysis. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build long term business relationships. Prior approval to hold licenses under the Liquor Licensing Act or the Gaming Machine Act is highly desirable along with experience in or the ability to be trained in gaming machine use.
