AddressCustodial Operations provides strategic oversight, governance and support for the effective delivery of 24/7 custodial services for public sector operated correctional facilities in Queensland.
Custodial Operations is responsible for developing and monitoring performance standards for the delivery of custodial services throughout Queensland through key functional areas of operational practice and governance compliance and risk.
The role of the Chief Superintendent, General Manager is to manage the operations of a correctional centre to ensure the safe and secure management of prisoners, whilst providing opportunities for rehabilitation. As a member of the senior management team, the Chief Superintendent, General Manager plays a significant role in the leadership and strategic direction of QCS, and in supporting the goals of the broader public sector.
In this role you will:
- Maintain effective security and intelligence systems and practices within the centre through robust testing processes and contingency testing.
- Ensuring the provision of custodial services in accordance with the Corrective Services Act 2006, and other key legislation.
- Maintain effective security systems and practices through robust practice review and contingency testing.
- Ensure automated security systems and security equipment throughout the facility are maintained and fully operational.
- Lead the management team in the development, implementation, and review of security plans. Oversee the application and review of policies and procedures for the security of the centre.
- Develop the centre's coordinated approach to emergency situations and the ensure the ongoing maintenance of effective offender security procedures and controls.
- Ensure compliance with legislation and Agency procedures for the management of the centre's security.
- Ensure appropriate access to information and files by relevant staff and approved agencies.
- Direct and lead the management team of the centre in a positive manner.
- Promote and support human resources and industrial relations processes and policies.
- Lead the management team in the preparation and implementation of the centre's workforce plan.
- Meet all the centre's duty of care obligations for staff, offenders, and the public in accordance with legislation and Agency procedures.
- Ensure workloads and work practices of staff contribute to effectiveness of the centre and the Agency.
- Promote and implement the Agency's employee performance management system within the centre.
- Appraise performance and provide feedback to direct reports and staff.
- Providing strong leadership and mentoring to the management team and staff of the correctional centre to ensure effective service delivery.
- Provide staff training and professional development opportunities to enhance capability across the centre.
- Proactively manage the work performance and personal conduct of employees in accordance with the responsibilities under the Public Service Act.
- Maintain knowledge of human resource and industrial relations legislation, policies, and procedures relevant to managing staff.
- Maintain knowledge of contemporary management practices.
- Contribute to the Agency's strategic workforce plan.
