Making Waves (formerly Sailors with disABILITIES) is a not-for-profit organisation founded almost 30 years ago to provide services and sailing experiences, with the aim of being a catalyst for changing the lives of children and adults with disabilities, and disadvantaged youth.

This national role requires a people leader and “hands on” manager who has the attitude, aptitude and drive to further develop an established NFP organisation, taking an already good organisation and making it even greater. With this constantly evolving NFP you will have freedom, working with a highly engaged board, to drive increased visibility, sustainability and making a meaningful difference to their clients.
Sharing your leadership, operations and strategic expertise with a small staff and broad volunteer base this role is located in Rushcutters Bay. There are also a facilities in Melbourne, Queensland and Newcastle and outreach programs run annually in Hobart and along the north coast as far as Mackay.
You will share a harborside office with your team, leading and guiding them to achieve the desired outcomes. Making Waves has a small staff but relies heavily on the support of a committed and valued group of volunteers to run a variety of programs using a number of yachts.
Essential requirements to be considered for this role include;
- General Management & Operations experience;
- Collaborative and Consultative Leadership Style;
- NDIS Expertise;
- Fund raising experience;
- Hands-on work style;
- Highly developed stakeholder engagement ability;
- The desire to motivate, support and encourage a highly valued team of volunteers;
- Experience working with people who are disabled, or disadvantaged;
- An interest in Sailing is an advantage.
As General Manager, reporting to the Board, you will be responsible for the effective and efficient running of the organisation. Using your initiative and motivation to influence and enthuse your team to collaboratively drive the necessary fund raising initiatives, and deliver programs that will encourage a sustainable future for the organisation, highly valued by many.
