The Governance Coordinator plays a key role in ensuring the efficient and effective execution of all governance and records functions. The role supports the organisation to maintain transparency and compliance of registers, policies, procedures and associated documents.
This diverse and challenging role will implement and maintain robust governance systems and processes and ensure that all legal obligations of Council are met.
Reporting to the Director Corporate & Community Services, and supported by a small team, key responsibilities include:
- Effective and efficient governance services are provided to Council
- Council operates within and complies with its legislative requirements
- Review of delegations and authorisations and maintenance of the Delegations Register
- Ongoing development, maintenance and review of policy documents
- Undertake governance audits and develop an improvement plans as required
- Liaise with the CEO regarding the appointment of Authorised Persons and Officers
- Effect management, maintenance and oversight of relevant Council Registers
- Interpretation of the Local Government Act and other legislation as required
- Assist with the internal review processes as required under the Act
- Management of Freedom of Information (FOI) requests
- Co-ordinate and manage projects, that relate to governance and compliance activities
- Manage the audit and risk framework and provide advice to relevant stakeholders
- Assist with the administration of council elections as required
- Provide an efficient and effective best practice records management service to Council
- Ensure the integrity of Council’s Cemetery records and Cemetery management
- Coordinate and lead Council’s Records Management team.
We are seeking a vibrant, outcome focussed professional, with familiarity applying and interpreting legislation. Your governance experience may have been acquired from working in local government, or other highly regulated and/or compliance focused sector/s.
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field are preferred, and high attention to detail, excellent written and verbal communication skills in all settings are essential.
