About the role
We are looking for a strategic Group Manager, International Business, responsible for expanding Brickworks Building Products' operations internationally.
Reporting to the Executive General Manager, Brickworks Building Products this role involves developing and implementing strategic plans to drive growth, establishing new markets, managing sales and marketing, and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders in multiple regions. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in International Business, excellent leadership skills, and a deep understanding of the building products industry.
The role requires frequent national and international travel to support business development and operational activities, up to 40% of the time. Duration may range from a few days to several weeks.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Global Strategy and Execution:
• Develop and implement comprehensive business strategies for Brickworks Ltd in Australia, the USA and other regions, aligned with the company's overall objectives.
• Identify new market opportunities and develop entry and expansion strategies.
• Set clear goals and performance metrics for operations in these regions and ensure they are achieved.
Sales and Marketing:
• Conduct international market research, considering cultural nuances consumer behaviour and regulatory environments.
• Work closely with regional sales teams and distributors to increase sales leads.
• Effectively collaborate with sales teams in Australia and the USA to achieve revenue and profitability targets.
• Oversee marketing strategies to enhance brand presence and market penetration in both regions.
Operations Management and Compliance:
• Ensure efficient and effective global supply chain management operations, including supply chain logistics, import/export processes, and customer service.
• Ensure compliance with anti-corruption laws and company policies by actively preventing and reporting any attempts of unethical practices.
• Collaborate with product development teams to tailor products for the expanded markets.
• Oversee the establishment and management of offices and distribution networks in Australia and the USA.
• Identify and mitigate risks associated with regulatory requirements related to international trade.
• Maintain compliance with international trade laws, customs regulations, export controls and trade agreements.
Relationship Management:
• Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including customers, distributors, partners, and government agencies.
• Represent Brickworks Building Products at trade shows, conferences, and industry events as required.
• Negotiate and manage contracts with partners and clients in various regions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams (finance, marketing, legal, etc) to achieve seamless global operations.
Financial Management:
• Develop and implement financial plans for International Business activities considering both short-term and long-term objectives.
• Prepare and manage annual budget for Australia and the USA, ensuring cost control and profitability.
• Identify and mitigate financial risks, such as currency risk, political instability, and economic fluctuations.
• Provide regular reports to the CEO and executive team on business performance.
Leadership and Development:
• Foster a high-performance culture within the team.
• Recruit, train, and mentor staff, ensuring continuous development and succession planning.
• Promote a culture of diversity, inclusion, and ethical business practices in both regions.
Success Requirements
• 10 years plus experience in International Business management, preferably within the building products industry.
• Proven track record of successfully expanding business operations and driving growth in international markets.
• Strong understanding of global trade regulations, export procedures, and international logistics.
• A strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, adaptability, and flexibility to navigate diverse business environments and unforeseen challenges.
• Exceptional cross-cultural communication and proficient in multiple languages is a plus, along with strong negotiation, and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Strong ethical standards and integrity in conducting International Business dealings.
• Excellent leadership and people management skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, International Business, Marketing, or a related field. An MBA or equivalent advanced degree is preferred.
• Willingness for frequent travel both nationally and internationally, up to 40% of the time. Duration may range from a few days to several weeks.
