About the Team
The Treasury & Corporate Finance team plays an important role in a standalone capacity as a team comprising high-accountability strategic and specialist functions, and in providing support to the broader business who often lean on the team’s excellence, experience, and expertise.
There is significant crossover between Treasury & Corporate Finance and the rest of Finance which fosters an environment where teamwork and collaboration are essential for success. The Treasury & Corporate Finance team is committed to continuous improvement and actively seeks to enhance, simplify, and streamline operations within the team and across the business.
About the role and you
As Group Tax Manager, you will be responsible for assisting the General Manager Treasury & Corporate Finance with the management of the tax function. With functional ownership across a full spectrum of tax activities, you will obtain and/or provide advice on technical tax matters while ensuring all tax compliance obligations are met. There are also ancillary opportunities for you to develop Treasury, Corporate Finance and Insurance knowledge in a support capacity when helping progress broader team deliverables.
Accountability for a specialist area within the Finance team underscores the importance of your role, where the development of collaborative working relationships with internal stakeholders, external tax advisors and shareholder tax representatives are essential.
With all of this in mind, you will be a highly proficient tax practitioner with a proven breadth of experience across a range of tax compliance tasks. You will also be able to think strategically in advising on and progressing technical tax matters. With ownership of the tax function, we are looking for someone who is extremely organised, with high attention to detail, and is genuinely happy to roll their sleeves up in really owning their area of expertise.The role responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Obtaining and/or providing tax advice that addresses technical tax matters
- Ensuring all internal and external tax compliance obligations are adhered to at all times including, but not limited to, preparation of income tax, goods and services tax, fringe benefits tax, payroll tax, other employee tax, and trust distribution lodgements, statements, workpapers, calculations, tax bases and tax registers, and other reporting obligations.
- Developing, reviewing, updating and maintain tax policies.
- Ensuring all tax risks are identified, measured and reported.
- Preparing tax related projections for budgeting purposes.
- Preparing board and committee papers in respect of the above.
- Preparing statutory and other disclosures in respect of the above.
- Liaising with shareholder tax representatives in respect of the above.
Your background should include
- Undergraduate degree in relevant discipline
- 7+ years’ specific experience required, preferably as a tax practitioner within a large and/or complex corporate, or otherwise within a professional services firm.
- Superior experience across a broad range of tax consulting and compliance tasks including regular shareholder and stakeholder management.
- Superior experience navigating within complex ownership structure
- Deep experience creating high quality board papers and presentations
- Understanding of general economic drivers and their interrelationships
- Understanding of debt, equity and derivative instruments is desirable
