The School is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative educator to join our School for Term 2, 2024 as Head of Library Services in our Secondary School Library.
The Head of Library Services is responsible for the management and organisation of the School’s Library Services, including information and research support for students in Years 7-12.
This position is 1.0 FTE full time to cover a period of Long Service Leave.
Previous Teacher-Librarian experience is desirable; however, graduates are welcome to apply if they hold relevant tertiary qualifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborating and working alongside Heads of Department and teachers to develop and deliver student-centred programmes
- Creating a vibrant and welcoming environment where the love of reading and literature is nurtured and encouraged
- Managing the operations of the Secondary School Library and associated Library Information System
- Teaching library lessons for Years 7 to 12 classes
- Resource management and promotion
- Management of Library support staff on a day to day basis
- Facilitating the utilisation of shared resources
- Promoting library programmes, events and activities
- Supporting staff and student accounts and library enquiries
Essential Criteria
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Education, Library, Information Systems or Teacher Librarianship
- High pedagogical standards
- Exceptional quality pastoral care
- Desire to assist young people in achieving to the best of their ability
- Enthusiasm in developing the capability of staff and creating a cohesive team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate positive relationships with all stakeholders
- Growth mindset and can-do attitude
- Committed and collaborative team player
- Proficiency in utilising ICT in a classroom environment
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience teaching Library for Years 7 to 12
- Previous experience as a Teacher in Charge or Head of Department
- Member of the Australian Library and Information Association (ALIA)
