Job Summary:
Health and Safety Officer roles will include creating and puts into action, and reviews policies and programs aimed at managing risks, provides training to employees on procedures related to occupational Health and Safety, conducts regular checks and assessments of the workplace, and documents and examines any incidents. This is done to maintain and promote a work environment that is both safe and healthy for employees.
Key Responsibilities:
Developing, putting into action, and revising plans for managing environmental Health and occupational safety.
Organizing and executing strategies for the responsible, cost-effective disposal of waste from commercial, industrial, medical, and residential sources.
Providing guidance on compliance with laws, rolling out disease prevention programs and strategies related to food safety, wastewater treatment, recreational and residential water quality, handling of contaminated and hazardous materials, and reducing pollution in air, sea, water, and noise to enhance health conditions.
Identifying potential dangers, evaluating, and mitigating risks in the workplace.
Establishing, executing, and supervising initiatives to reduce pollution in the workplace and environment caused by chemical and physical hazards.
Advocating for ergonomic practices in the workplace, ensuring that the design of furniture, equipment, and tasks suits the needs of employees.
Conducting inspections and reviews of workplaces, procedures, equipment, and exposure to chemical and physical risks to ensure they meet legal standards.
Educating staff on the use of personal protective gear and safe work practices.
Documenting and examining incidents involving injuries or equipment damage and providing reports on safety performance.
Managing the process of reintegrating employees who have been injured back into the workplace.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in quality management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in Health Safety with at least 2 years in a management role.
Strong understanding of quality assurance methodologies, tools, and processes.
Experience with quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001) and quality standards relevant to the industry.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to analyse data, identify trends, and implement strategic quality improvements.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and quality management software.
