About the Opportunity
The role of HR and Payroll Advisor is a key role with responsibility to provide advice and support to key stakeholders located across Australia. Reporting to the Manager, People and Culture, and working with a small team, you will provide advice on matters relating to compliance, policy, recruitment, award interpretation, salary reviews and records management. Employing approximately 120 staff nationally, the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart employs a broad range of staff involved in outreach, health and wellbeing, hospitality and administration.
The role will also require you to manage the payroll process in times when the current Payroll Officer is on leave. This responsibility will require you to manage the complete payroll function during those times, liaising with staff and managers on relevant payroll matters, and reporting on those matters as required. We are open to candidates who may have limited payroll experience, but are willing to build on their foundational understanding of the principals of the payroll process.
This opportunity is a unique HR generalist role and an opportunity to gain exposure to the full suite of HR services. Based in the Administrative Services Centre at North Sydney, you will work in a very supportive environment, and with a team that is passionate about providing outstanding advice and support across an organisation that seeks to make a difference in the lives of others.
The role is a permanent, part-time position working 22.5 hours (3 days) per week and based in North Sydney. Days and hours a negotiable. Working from home arrangements are available (1 day per week) after an initial induction period.

Your experience in a similar HR and/or Payroll advisory role is key to this position. Just as important will be your ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, your commitment to service excellence, and ability to contribute to the growth of this community of like-minded people.
As the ideal candidate for this role, you will meet the following Key Requirements:
- Demonstrated commitment to the values and mission of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of the Sacred Heart
- Relevant qualifications in Human Resources or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role
- Experience with interpretation of Modern Awards and the Fair Work Act. Knowledge of payroll legislation and compliance is desirable
- Experience using HR databases/systems
- Strong attention to detail
