Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated HSE Manager - Western Australia who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Perth, Australia.

The primary purpose is to contribute to influence positive attitudes and behaviours that foster a positive safety culture, ensure continuous improvement and good corporate governance of Health, Safety and Environmental.

Key responsibilities include, but not limited to:

  • Leadership of the HSE function in Western Australia.

  • Development and implementation of HSE Strategies and plans.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop and implement HSE management systems tailored to the organisation's needs, industry standards, risk, governance and regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and rollout local HSE programs as required.

  • Oversee governance, monitoring and inspection mechanisms.

  • Facilitate effective communication and consultation.

  • Providing technical advice and coaching including safety leadership, risk management, HSE systems, incident investigation, audits and training.

  • Drive continuous improvement of HSE, contributing to implementation of best practice, improved safety leadership, engagement with the workforce and influencing of positive behaviours.

  • Ensure all activities undertaken in the region comply with applicable HSE related legislation, GBMS and contractual requirements.

We are looking for a person with:

  • A passion for safety, a can do attitude and can work autonomously.

  • Experience in the rail industry, a client facing role and acting as Principal Contractor highly regarded.

  • A structured outlook and experience in reporting with good attention to detail.

  • Experience in developing and implementing procedures, initiatives and programs.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills including network-building, problem solving and the ability to work with and influence people at all levels of an organisation.

  • Tertiary qualification in HSE and 5+ years' experience in a high risk industry.
