Reporting to the Operations Director, this is a newly created role, based in the Brisbane office with occasional travel expected throughout Australia to project sites to provide hands on support.   This is a 12 month contract (with the view to going permanent).

You will be an enthusiastic champion of Health, Safety, Environment, Quality (HSEQ) & Systems with the ability to influence a safety-first mindset across BSR.  This role will suit an individual who is excited to make an impact in this visible role by implementing a HSEQ framework and enhancing BSR’s current Integrated Management System (IMS).   You will have highly developed leadership skills, stakeholder management & communication skills & be comfortable communicating across all levels of BSR.  

In order to improve and ensure the effective implementation of BSR Australia’s HSEQ and IMS systems, the HSEQ and IMS Manager will be responsible for; 1) the development, implementation and continuous improvement of HSEQ framework and; 2) further enhancing BSR’s corporate Integrated Management System (IMS) in order to oversee its practical application to operations in Australia.

The successful candidate must have demonstrated experience operating at a senior leadership level however still be willing to ‘roll up your sleeves’ at the ground level.  The nature of this role requires a strong balance of ‘operational’ as well as strategic and a strong knowledge of the renewable energy industry in Australia will be highly desirable.

Duties of the Role

• Guide and support the Project Leadership Team to develop and implement a safety culture that aligns to the company vision, including adequate development and training in safety critical roles
• Ensure the projects maintains robust risk management processes and discipline relating to health, safety, environment and systems capability 
• ­Investigate all causes of events on site and recommend actions to prevent future occurrences
• Provide specialist HSEQ support to stakeholders including the Project Leadership team, employees, contractors, clients and visitors during the project lifecycle ­
• Maintain comprehensive safety records, manage statutory reporting requirements and monitor safety performance progress ­
• Support the effectiveness of the consultative framework and communicate safety matters to management and staff as appropriate ­
• Being the central point of advice on HSEQ legislation including ISO 45001, 14001, and 9001, industry Acts, and Codes of Practice
• Continue to develop the company’s Integrated Management System and HSEQ supporting documentation
• Report on the implementation and effectiveness of the Integrated Management System across all business units
• Lead the HSEQ monthly meeting with management and HSEQ stakeholders throughout the business, and any proactive or reactive response meetings
• Lead and/or assist management with incident investigations, facilitate communication of findings, and develop corrective actions
• Facilitate the integration of HSEQ software, including providing internal training to operational teams
• Input into lessons learned and continuous improvement
• Develop and maintain the annual internal audit schedule
• Ensure external 3rd party audits are supported where requested 
• Provide internal HSEQ training sessions
• Conduct workplace audits and inspections, as well as site hazard and risk inspections.
• Coordinate the implementation of preventative measures and/or close out of corrective actions.
• Manage and review internal registers
• Report monthly HSEQ statistics to external and internal stakeholders
• Develop new strategies and initiatives related to improving HSEQ and BSR’s ‘Everyone Safe Always’ safety initiative
• Maintain personal skills and competencies, keeping up to date with legal requirements and best practice as a HSEQ professional
• Travel to various project sites throughout Australia to provide support as and when needed.
• Develop, implement and administer education and compliance programs for employees, clients, contractors and visitors i.e. Behavioural based safety programs.

What you will be doing in this role:
We are looking for an energetic, engaging and highly skilled HSEQ & Systems Manager to deliver a 37.2MWp Solar Project, located in northern Victoria, Australia.  This role is a fixed term 12 month contract. 

What skills will you have? 

• Successful delivery of at least two projects of a similar nature to the project scope in a similar role
• Demonstrable knowledge of Victorian workplace health and safety legislation and codes of practice
• Demonstrable knowledge of Victorian environmental protection legislation.

• A minimum of 7 years’ experience in a management position within Health and Safety or a related field
• A minimum of 2 years experience in the renewable energy, construction industry or a similarly advantageous field with a keen interest in furthering your knowledge in HSEQ disciplines.
• Experience in the application of risk management principles, management systems implementation and company-wide legislative compliance programs.

An ability to communicate positively and effectively with all levels of management and staff

• Business Administration Degree or Diploma
• HSEQ management experience, preferably in solar and/or BESS
• Experience in co-ordination of external ISO audits
• Construction White Card Certificate
• Drivers License
• Australian working rights.
