Are you passionate about empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students? James Cook University (JCU) is seeking a dedicated individual to develop and manage programs that foster academic success and personal growth. Join our team in the Indigenous Education and Research Centre as the Indigenous Student Programs Coordinator!

  • Full-time and continuing role
  • Based at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus
  • Remuneration is at HEWL 7: $94,374 - $104,359 per annum (effective 1 July) plus up to 17% superannuation
  • This is a designated position for Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH IN THE ROLE 

You’ll play a key role in enhancing the capacities of prospective Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to succeed in higher education studies at JCU. You will develop and manage capacity-building programs, coordinate outreach and celebratory events, and build strong relationships within the University and the wider community. Your responsibilities will include evaluating program impact and effectiveness, creating a dynamic communication strategy, and ensuring budget alignment through efficient resource allocation and decision-making.

WHAT YOU WILL BRING TO THE ROLE 

With relevant qualifications and experience, you bring working knowledge of strategies to enhance the learning capacity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in higher education. You have a deep understanding of the barriers and challenges faced by Indigenous students in higher education with comprehensive knowledge of pathways, pre-entry programs, admission processes, degree programs, support services, scholarships, and financial assistance available to them. You have a demonstrated ability to coordinate an annual calendar of activities with a collaborative approach to continuous improvement. Excellent written and interpersonal skills are also required for communicating effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
