About the roles

Industrial Relations Officer

This position undertakes research and analysis to implement Industrial Relations and workplace reform initiatives for the NMHS as part of the Industrial Relations (IR) team; provides a consultancy and advisory service in relation to relevant industrial matters specific to the NMHS, ensuring alignment with the wider WA health system approach.; contributes to the development and implementation of local strategies to manage complex and high-risk health workforce issues and disputes aligned with the System Manager’s strategic direction.

Industrial Relations Consultant

This position provides high quality industrial and workplace relations consultancy, advisory and representation services to NMHS, whilst ensuring a consistent approach across the WA health system. Participates in the development and implementation of NMHS Industrial Relations strategies.

The NMHS IR team plays a key role in supporting flexible, fair and productive work practices at NMHS. IR provides advice on emerging workforce issues and determinations affecting conditions of employment.

The IR team is dedicated to building its Industrial Relations knowledge and skills relevant to the WA Health system and more broadly, the State public sector. Our Consultants maintain close links with professional groups and networks, ensuring contemporary IR practices and approaches are applied in NMHS.

IR provides expert advice to internal stakeholders and decision-makers on human resource and Industrial Relations matters, working proactively and collaboratively with HR practitioners and management.  IR coordinates and responds to the interpretation and implementation of industrial instrument provisions and assists in the prevention of industrial disputes.

IR services include:

  • Industrial relations support and advice.
  • Employment policy advice.
  • Specialist support, assistance and training to HR practitioners regarding IR matters.
  • Interpretation and application of the WA Public Sector legislative and regulatory frameworks governing employment and Industrial Relations.
  • Industrial agreement/award interpretation and application.
  • Industrial dispute resolution and representation.
  • Providing representation and advocacy in matters before the WA Industrial Relations Commission, Public Service Arbitrator, Public Service Appeal Board and Industrial Magistrates Court.
  • Engaging with unions and other external stakeholders to manage and resolve industrial disputes in accordance with relevant dispute settlement procedures.
  • Advice on processes for grievances and disciplinary issues
  • Advice on and implementation of strategies to reduce industrial risk

We work collaboratively with the WA Health System Manager and other Health Service Providers to ensure consistency and accuracy in the advice and support we provide.

These positions report to the Director Industrial Relations

Whilst this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other "similar" vacancies throughout the health service. In addition to this, should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised vacancy, then the next most suitable applicant may also be selected from this process. Both of these options remain valid for a period of twelve (12) months from when the authorised delegate endorses the recruitment decision.
