We are offering an opportunity for a suitably qualified (Science, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or equivalent) person to take up a position as Industrial Chemist within our Australian based manufacturing business in Bendigo, Victoria.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE
Ideally you will have experience with a manufacturing environment with a proven track record in the following areas:
- Develop rubber compound formulations to meet customer’s needs at a competitive cost.
- Maintain records of trials to enable logical decisions to be taken on materials development.
- Arrange for the evaluation of alternate raw materials to reduce costs while maintaining or enhancing processing and performance characteristics.
- Keep abreast of new developments in materials and/or processes to ensure most up-to-date technology is being used.
- Engage in continuous improvement projects related to materials and materials processing.
- Participate in programs, seminars and meetings as required to perform position functions.
- Experience in technical positions within the rubber or plastics industries.
- Experience in the development of new compounds as per material specifications.
- Experience in the testing of raw materials.
- Applied knowledge of ASTM, ISO and JIS testing standards.
The successful candidate will be given encouragement, support and experience in an organization dealing at an international level.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in Science, Materials Engineering, Polymer Science or equivalent.

RESPONSIBILITIES
The chemist is primarily responsible for developing formulations to meet customer specifications and other requirements.
- Maintain formulation control system in line with applicable quality standards.
- Ensure all materials, that are brought on site under your instructions comply with OH&S requirements and that MSDSs are available and users are advised of potential hazards.
- Liaise with raw materials suppliers to ensure that materials they supply meet quality & cost requirements.
- Issue dispositions for off-spec products and propose corrective actions in conjunction with other staff.
- Assist in solving problems that customers, including internal, may have with compounds supplied.
- Oversee all materials specification testing and ensure that it is carried out according to required standards.
- Project manage the technical aspects, including trials, sample supply, specification agreement, etc., of selected new business development or product improvement projects.
- Other duties within the skills, capability and training of the incumbent.
