The Mackerel Islands are a collection of 10 pristine islands and atolls scattered off the mid-coast of Western Australia, in the spectacular Pilbara region. One island currently welcomes guests from late March to October – Thevenard Island – with accommodation, facilities and activities available. Thevenard Island is located 22km off Onslow, or 1400km north of Perth, and our wilderness-style experience boasts world–class fishing, snorkelling, boating, diving, nature watching and relaxation.
Have you thought about trying something new this year? Our 2024 tourist season kicks off in late-March, and we are taking applications from friendly, energetic, and adventurous individuals to join our small team on Thevenard Island for the season. Our ideal candidates will be passionate about the ocean and marine wildlife.
Successful candidates will be offered a full-time contract from late-March 2024 until the end of the tourism season in October 2024, with the hours worked to be on any day of the week.
This is a full-time role, with staff accommodation available on Thevenard Island.

As a Island Maintenance All rounder, your duties may include:
- Preventative & reactive maintenance schedules & daily tasks
- Day to day grounds and maintenance duties, including accommodation maintenance, rubbish runs, grounds presentation
- Assisting with incoming freight loading & unloading
- Assist with guest arrivals, departures, and requests
- Maintain high level of customer service ensuring guest satisfaction
- Assisting with freight & deckhand work
Selection Criteria
- Demonstrate a level of fitness to safely perform labour intensive duties
- A positive attitude and strong work ethic – you must be resilient'
- Awareness of the nature of living and working in a remote and isolated environment. A love of the outdoors and marine environment is definitely essential
- Pride in delivering a high standard of customer service to guests and customers
- Be a quick learner who can think on their feet
The following skills, experience or qualifications are desirable:
- Trade qualification (Refrigeration, Electrical, plumbing, Carpentery)
- Boating & deckhand qualifications, (RST, or Coxswain, Cert I in Maritime Operations)
- Basic computer and office skills
Minimum qualifications required:
- Current Drivers Licence with 'F' Endorsement
- Current First Aid certificate & CPR
- A current National Police Clearance or willing to obtain
