HM Prison Barwon is a maximum-security prison located 6km north-west of Lara, 20km from the centre of Geelong and about 70km from Melbourne and is part of the Barwon Southwest Regional structure. It is Victoria's major maximum-security prison for sentenced male prisoners. The prison officially opened in January 1990 and currently houses up to 416 men in custody, including high security, long term management, protection (including specialist protection), general mainstream (maximum security) and medium security prisoners.
About the Role:
Reporting to Industry Supervisor the Logistics and Ground Support Officer will work within a multidisciplinary team and is required to be well organised to assist with the coordination and conduct of general routine and scheduled grounds maintenance and services in the prison. This role will be required to administer the delivery of meals, laundry, stores, property and will also undertake minor maintenance activities as required. Other general duties will include mowing using a ride on lawn mower, landscaping, power washing, sweeping walkways of debris, trim shrubs and weed, and other grounds maintenance as required. The role may require weekend and/or public holiday work at times of need, which will be paid in accordance with the VPS Enterprise Agreement. Additionally, working within a prison environment may involve prisoner contact.
Some of your duties will include:
- Picking up and delivering a wide variety of items within the prison ensuring schedules are adhered too.
- Loading, unloading, preparing inspect and operating a light delivery vehicle.
- Having good driving skills with no traffic violations.
About You:
As an ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Detail the key 1 to 4 skills and experience required for the role.
- Experience in delivery of services and logistics.
- Experience in maintenance.
- Driver's license for light vehicle with competent driving skills.
- Current Victorian Driver's Licence.
- Maintenance and logistics background and experience (preferable)
- Forklift licence desirable
