The Department of Justice and Community Safety delivers services to the Victorian community through eight Regions.
The Loddon Mallee Region delivers a range of services including Community Corrections Services, Youth Justice, Sheriff's Operations, Consumer Affairs and front of house enquiries (including Births, Deaths and Marriages applications). The Corporate Services team is responsible for providing the Loddon Mallee Region with a range of corporate support functions including Human Resources and Workforce Development, Finance and Procurement, Facilities Management, Administration and Workforce Development. Justice Service Centres are located in Bendigo, Swan Hill, Echuca and Mildura and at outreach locations across the region, including Castlemaine, Maryborough, Kerang, Robinvale, Kyneton and Ouyen. The region also has three prisons.
About the Role:
The Justice Officer is an entry-level position to a career in the Department of Justice & Community Safety (DJCS) working within Corporate Services or Business Support Services within the regional offices and prisons. DJCS comprises of eight regions, through which compliance, enforcement and regulatory services are provided to the Victorian community.
The Justice Officer - Stores & Finance delivers services within prison facilities. This role is primarily based at Loddon Prison & Middleton at Castlemaine; facilities for male prisoners within the medium and restricted minimum-security categories but also provides services from Tarrengower Prison at Maldon, a minimum-security facility for female prisoners. The role provides timely and effective corporate services including warehouse, stores, forklift operations, finance support, purchasing, procurement, stock and inventory control, working in the prisoner shops and various other related duties.
This position requires direct prisoner contact and supervision and may involve weekend and public holiday work, in accordance with the applicable provision of the VPS Enterprise Agreement 2020.
Some of your duties will include:
- Under the direction of the Team Leader – Stores and Finance, providing a range of Stores & Finance services including warehouse, forklift operations, finance support, purchasing, procurement, stock/inventory control, general prison/prisoner services administration and various other related duties in compliance with the Financial Management Act 1994, ministerial directions, instructions, guidelines and operating procedures.
- Serving prisoners within prisoner shops/canteens whilst being responsibility for direct supervision of prisoner workers, ordering and receipting of stock, maintenance of minimum stock levels and shop lists, security of shop stock, stocktaking and stock-control, record keeping and ensuring the shop is clean and in good order.
- Working productively and respectfully as part of a dedicated and supportive team within a rotational roster framework featuring task responsibilities in accordance with this position description.
About You:
We are just looking for people with the right attitude. No experience is required as all training is provided upon commencement though data entry and rostering experience is preferable.
As an ideal candidate, you will possess:
- Well-developed computer literacy.
- Sound knowledge of and application of legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations.
- Experience with Oracle or similar finance related system.
- An understanding of shop, store and warehousing operations including associated stock management.
