About Us:
At the Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP), each Justice Officer role specialises in one of five streams – Property, Records, Human Resources, Finance/Stores and Administration. Over time, and with appropriate support and training, Justice Officers may be rotated between these streams to provide career enhancement opportunities to those staff, and operational flexibility to the prison.
The Melbourne Assessment Prison (MAP) is a maximum-security facility providing state-wide assessment and orientation services for all male prisoners received into the prison system and is located within the North West Metropolitan Area, Department of Justice. MAP consists of the prison, the custody facilities at the County, Supreme and Appeal Courts and holding cells at St Vincent's Hospital for prisoners requiring outpatient medical treatment.
About the Role:
The Justice Officer is an entry-level position to a career in corporate services in the Department's eight Regions, through which the compliance, enforcement and regulatory services are provided to the Victorian community.
In a Justice Service Centre environment, a Justice Officer provides a combination of reception and concierge functions, and administrative and business support services. In the context of a prison, the Justice Officer provides a range of corporate support services (as specified), within the unique operational environment of a correctional facility. In either context, the role requires a strong focus on customer service, teamwork, integrity, accuracy, compliance and timeliness.
Some of your duties will include:
  • As part of the Stores and Finance team, and under supervision, providing high quality financial, procurement, stores and canteen services, in accordance with the Financial Management Act 1994, other government regulations and guidelines and MAP local operating procedures
  • Preparing stock estimates, obtaining quotes, organising purchases to maintain stock levels, undertaking regular stock-takes, maintaining accurate records and maintaining the stores and prisoner canteen in good order.
  • Serving prisoners in the prisoner canteen, ensuring up to date records are maintained and adherence to compliance requirements.

About You:
As an ideal candidate, you will possess:
  • Well-developed computer literacy.
  • Good knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, procedures, guidelines and regulations.
  • Experience with Oracle or similar finance related system.
  • Experience with prison financial processes is desirable.
  • Understanding of store and warehousing operations including associated stock management, delivery / service requirements and OHS practices.
