About the role
Brisbane Girls Grammar School welcomes applications for the full-time position of Laboratory Technician (Physics).
As a Laboratory Technician (Physics), your primary responsibility will be to provide high-level technical and classroom support to the academic staff in the Science Faculty. Your contribution will be crucial in ensuring a smooth and successful learning experience for the students.
The role requires excellent organisational and time management skills, as you will be assisting with the preparation of teaching material for science classes, assessments, and practical exams.
The key responsibilities include:
- trialling experiments, so lesson objectives are achieved, and safety is ensured
- preparing and troubleshooting experiments for use by students at all year levels
- managing the laboratory effectively. This includes controlling stock, determining class requirements, coordinating resources, ensuring current Safety Data Sheets are available, and monitoring the department budget.
- ensuring work practices and procedures comply with workplace health and safety laws and regulations by conducting risk assessments
- ensuring correct disposal of waste, including chemical and biohazardous waste, and updating resource databases and hazardous substance registers
- maintaining equipment, repairs and servicing in a wide range of fields
- assisting with administrative processes, computer support and database/spreadsheet development.
You will also have
- Tertiary qualifications in science or laboratory technologies
- Through knowledge and understanding of workplace health and safety regulations, especially as they apply to laboratories
- Demonstrated advanced computer skills, including a sound understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite and data logging devices
- Flexible, hands-on approach to assist teachers within and beyond the classroom environment
- Ability to acquire and maintain a Positive Working with Children Check. (Blue Card)
