The Australian Bureau of Statistics is seeking to create a merit pool of suitable candidates to support current and future Assistant Director (Executive Level 1) vacancies in our People Development (Learning and Development) team.
You will be an awesome fit for these roles if you enjoy working with business leaders to find solutions to build their workforce capability now and into the future. You will help us:
- understand workforce capability demand and drivers to help identify, design and broker timely learning solutions; and
- use data and project management principles to continue to improve and mature our Learning and Development (L&D) policy, processes and platforms.
These cross-cutting roles will require the successful candidate to potentially work across all facets of an enterprise L&D function.
This may include:
- providing leadership and direction to a small team of L&D officers to deliver key L&D program and projects that deliver business value; to broker learning solutions for the business
- acting as a business capability advisor to support the ABS workforce planning process by working directly with senior business leaders and HR business partners to identify, design and broker learning solutions for targeted learning needs
- conducting a review of key capability data to generate insights to inform future design of learning solutions, programs and improvements to platform and process
- overseeing administration, delivery and continuous improvement of the core and essential learning program, an ABS wide learning program
- leading and curating the annual ABS Graduate Development Program by taking a data-driven user centred design approach to continuously improve the Graduate experience, one of the longest-standing ABS entry level pathways
- establishing and maintaining strong collaborative relationships with a range of key internal and external stakeholders to better understand and address their workforce capability needs
- advancing priority HR strategic initiatives from discovery right through to implementation, e.g. maturing ABS’s learning culture and mindset, maturing the ABS’ approach to use of capability data.
What we are looking for (selection criteria)
We are looking for someone who has:
- a good understanding of the ABS (or the ability to quickly develop) – ABS core business and the workforce risks, challenges, gaps, and opportunities it is currently facing
- excellent data, research, conceptual and analytical thinking skills
- demonstrated leadership skills and experience in building cohesive teams and managing and developing staff
- an ability to work under limited direction, develop and implement solutions using professional expertise, and demonstrating a curious and collaborative mindset
- strong stakeholder engagement and project management skills, including an ability to partner with others to understand their needs and/or leverage their expertise, and provide timely specialist consultancy services and advice
- excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to produce information in an inclusive, clear, and concise manner in a variety of media for a range of audiences
- good judgement in problem solving, decision making, risk and issues management.
